Fort Nelson, B.C. -      The Mayor of Ft. Nelson, Chris Morey, says she has received no word on what CANFOR plans to do with its operations in that community given the curtailments taking place across Canada. "We are especially worried about the OSB plant here because it is the one piece of manufacturing that is hit hard North American wide. "

Morey says  her community   has already felt the impact "We took some hits in the past two year in terms of downsizing , one as late as early this year in which the number of shifts where reduced. The cuts at the plywood plant and the OSB plant were significant ."

She says  the community  has some  diversity "While we have a good industry going here in the gas and oil fields, we are still heavily dependent on the forest industry. The area 100 kilometers north has been identified as the best area for shale gas deposits, there has been some mining activity and of course our tourism is growing so we are watching to see what effect the high Canadian dollar will have on this region.
