Prince George, B.C.   -   UNBC  has been  named one of  the top  Research Universities of the Year  in Canada.

The national ranking put UNBC  3rd among  20 small universities, and 29th overall with a ranking that was better than many  universities which are much older and larger than UNBC.

UNBC President Dr. Don Cozetto says the reason for the high ranking is siomple "We have the best faculty in the country.  They’re connected with numerous industry groups, communities, and government agencies such as Northern Health, to both ensure that the community is part of the research process as well as the dissemination and application of the research results.”

In the 2005-06 fiscal year, UNBC attracted nearly $16 million in research funding, a 90% increase over the results from the previous year. This large annual increase is due to a number of new developments during 2005-06: research funding for the new National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health, the acquisition of state-of-the-art forestry research equipment to assess fibre quality, the expansion of UNBC’s high-performance computing centre, and the addition of health research equipment.

I think this is exciting news for Prince George and UNBC.

On a visit to San Diego California, I was at (SDSU) San Diego State University. I noticed that they are proudly known as the number 1 research university in their country among small universities. SDSU has been around since 1931. UNBC has been around a much shorter time and is already number 1 in Canada.
Where is the edit function on this site?

UNBC is number 3 ....just a few more years until it is number 1 in research amongst small Canadian universities.
der iss know edid funcksion on dis syte
Now that was a stupid post. I wanted to get rid of it and I couldn't ......

;-)
What I would like to know is in those areas which UNBC has decided to do some serious research, how is it doing in relation to other universities doing research in similar areas.

In other words, if someone wants to do forestry research in Canada, which universities do such research and where does UNBC stand from a quantitative and qualitative point of view.

If they were to look at North America, where would UNBC stand?

Ditto for the World. Where are the powerhouses of university research in forestry and where does UNBC stand?

If I am a person interested in forestry research, that is the key question I would want answered. It could be the 3rd best overall or best overall, if it is useless in forestry, I am not interested.
Just from personal experience... no real scientific basis for this... but UNBC would not be at the bottom of the heap with regards to forestry research in Canada. Of the six universities that offer forestry programs, I'd put UNBC at fourth or fifth, ahead of U of Alberta, and maybe Lakehead University, but behind UBC, U of Toronto, and University of New Brunswick

Here is a list of research areas at UoT. Can't find anything nice and neatly presented in that fashion on the net at UNBC web site.
UNBC used to have all research grants listed and who was doing them but they laid off the department that did all that. Maybe with the recent hiring of a new Research head it might return. Maybe owl contact the U and ask to get the information on the web like UofT, probably has never crossed their minds.
I would like to see UNBC diversify its courses. Get some mining and serious geology programs in because thats where the future of this area is heading. If they keep on with forestry based courses then there might be some trouble ahead. General interst in forestry is at an all time low.
