Prince George, B.C. - The deadline for submitting comments or concerns about the downtown traffic and parking plan has been extended.
"We will be meeting with some downtown stakeholders on November 7th" says Transportation Glen Stanker, "So we will be accepting submissions until that date."
Initially all submissions had to be in by the 28th of October. The extension has come about because of late concerns raised by some stakeholders in the downtown core. They have expressed concerns over the parking proposal which calls for meters to return to Third Avenue, and for fines to jump to $30 for a first offence. The new plan would also eliminate the policy of not charging people for their first two parking violations.
Stanker says so far the plan has drawn nearly 175 submissions. While it was intended to have the revisions to the interim report submitted to Prince George City Council by the end of this month, it now looks as though it could be mid December for the final presentation.
Although there have been calls to eliminate the one way traffic on 4th and 2nd Avenues, Stanker says the two streets pose challenges, as one handles the traffic from 5th, the other eases traffic to 3rd, which then changes to 5th.
According to Stanker, the input has been great, with many positive comments about the proposed changes, especially when it comes to bike routes and transit plans.

Looks like Queensway is the "idle zone" for downtown. The lights aren't timed right and lots of traffic backs up between 5th and 4th. One of those lights should be removed, if not for traffic, then at least for air quality.
