Prince George, B.C. - The snow is  falling, and  cars are slipping and sliding throughout the region.

Prince George RCMP are dealing with several motor vehicle crashes as the roads are  very slippery.

Plenty of drivers have been caught without  winter tires, there is an accident on highway 16 West near mud river. There is a report of  a collision in Prince George  on Foothills Boulevard near the Rolling Mix cement plant,  and   vehicles are not able to make their way north on Foothills, north of North Nechako road  because it is too slippery.

There is a vehicle in the ditch   on highway 16 east near the  Prince George correction centre,  and there is a report of a vehicle  off the road,  4 kilometers north of Hixon on Highway 97.

Oh puke. I so hate the snow and swore to myself i'd escape this area before I die :)... Stay safe all. I worry now about my kids being on school bus without seatbelts! Another good topic to talk about. At least its not me shaking behind the wheel driving them!
I counted ten vehicles in the ditch on Cranbook Hill road, including two collisions. I’d recommend studded tires to climb that one... or chains....
Natures way of physically weeding out the bad drivers.
Yes... Mother was keeping the time of year a big secret.... didn't anyone notice the calendar ??? November 2nd people !!!!

We were hoping it would stay green until Christmas evening ???

Enjoy.... it's ONLY six months .... :-(

Blessings

Sand truck -- another endangered species.
I can only hope that the "Sand Commander" who is in charge of spooning out the product this year is not the same nimrod who handled last year's allotment of the apparently precious commodity !!!

I know it must be a hugely difficult job to dole out road sand and salt by the measuring cupfull... almost as difficult as having to make the decision to have plows and graders ready to roll after the first three or four feet of snow has covered the roadways... "Duhhh, should we plow today... or save some more money in the budget ?"

Oh... I forgot.... we are not just a "winter city"... we are the CAPITAL of Northern BC... must be why we such a joke when it comes to being so incredibly inefficient at snow/ice control on the streets.

I am looking forward to the frustrations and entertainment since this will be my last year here... maybe it will all come together this time.

Blessings

I believe with over 500 miles of roads to plow & sand our city forces do a great job. People like you RRrabbitt think you should have a snow plow and sand truck in front of you ever where you go. Remember ever pound of sand put down needs to be swept up in the spring and we all know what the dust is like at that time of year.

Hope you have a safe winter and watch out for the sand trucks.
It's funny to see the RRrabbitt and heidi1555 saying how much they hate this place.

So many people like that are demanding changes in our lives here, and all the while thinking we are idiots for wanting to spend the rest of our lives in PG.

It this case they want lots of crap put on our roads so that there is lots of dust to complain about the rest of the year!

Well at least they provide lots of entertainment for folks like me that just laugh at them. Don't leave, Heehee!
LOL, I sort of agree. I'd rather see LESS dirt and rocks the size of marbles and MORE plowing. Can't handle the roads without a yard of dirt at every intersection? Maybe slow down, get better tires or just learn to drive within the conditions a little better :)

Yeah, I don't think we need sand trucks out every time we get a 1/2" of snow. Deal with it or take the bus.
Still hate the freakin' snow & cold, though!
Some 10 to 15 cm of snow on the ground and little of it melting away in the near future before some more might be on the way according to the forecast.

A weekend to boot, and cold nights, means that the typcial subdivison street, especially at intersections, has icy ruts and piles of iced up snow which is high enough to remove the bottom of many smaller cars.

But hey, its a weekend, and no one is out plowing. Remember, the snow budget for 2007 was probably blown in the early part fo 2007, so that there is little if any left for the fall of 2007 - winter does not start till December 21.

Seems to be the norm when we have years with snow. The City simply has been used to abnormal snow years.

So, now that we might have another more normal snow year, we can be ready once more to give the "city daddys and mommys" (previously referred to as city fathers) on Council an earfull about the realities of a winter city and point them to cities to the east of us, not the south of us, to see how they effectively remove snow for their citizens so that they have the least amount of damage to their cars.
Such complainers! Living at the bottom of the bowl has more pollution, but it also has the advantage of less snow than the areas out of the bowl. At least be glad the polluted air is doing something for you as the snow does not last as long down there.
