Rev Canada Finally Got Mulroney
By Ben Meisner
In the end, it was Rev Canada who turned the tables on Brian Mulroney in that matter of the $300,000 dollars he had received from Carl Schreiber who was a lobbiest in the building of the Air Bus in Europe.
Mulroney, who had denied that he had ever had any dealings with Schreiber, had to tell Rev Canada where he was getting all his money from, $300,000 cash in three payments of $100,000 dollars each.
The CBC’s Fifth Estate did an excellent job of staying with the story over the years even after formerJjustice Minister Allan Rock said that the Feds had committed an error in having the RCMP go after Mulroney and ended up paying $2.1 million dollars for his legal fees and PR people when he sued the government and the RCMP.
Schreiber came forword after one of Mulroney’s lackeys called him a "&!$^#@ liar".
That was the straw that broke the camel's back, after the German lobbyist had protected Mulroney throughout the years.
But Mulroney never did give a statement to the RCMP, who I’m sure would like to have gotten the goods on the former Prime Minister after they had to eat crow in the matter.
Mulroney is a lawyer by trade and knew that cash is tough to trace so he stayed hard and fast on the idea that he didn’t take a dime from the German who is still fighting extradition to Germany to face charges of bribes in that country as well.
Cash may be able to be hidden from your enemies and your friends, but if you're living the good life it doesn’t take long for Rev. Canada to want a share and so Mulroney quietly came forward and claimed it on his tax. Well that prompted Rev. Canada to ask just where did the money come from and suddenly all those denials became the truth.
Now one final question; given that we now have a Tory government in Ottawa and that Gov't has honored Mulroney, do you think there will be an effort to dust off the old file and at the very least get that money for legal fees and the PR people back from Mulroney?......
…You answered the question correctly.
I’m Meisner, ands that’s one man’s opinion.

The attempt to scare those who want an investigation with the threat that former PMs could also be investigated by him raises another troubling aspect: It is a suggestion that previous Canadian PMs (such as Chretien and Martin) might well fall into the same dubious category as Mulroney's dealings if only thoroughly investigated. Golf courses and steam ship lines are mentioned...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
With that, justice has been served and Canadians' confidence in Ottawa has been restored -it's business as usual.
Ipso ergo: Not only banana republics can have dishonest leaders.
