A $50,000 investment in new x-ray equipment will provide better diagnostic imaging services for Hudson’s Hope residents. The state-of-the-art system was unveiled this week as Northern Health staff and the community celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Hudson’s Hope Health Centre.

“The new X-ray equipment builds on the medical and health services offered by staff at Hudson’s Hope Health Centre to area residents,” said Peace River North MLA Richard Neufeld. “The fundraising efforts reflect the generosity and support of the community.”

The centre’s new Kodak Directview CR 825 x-ray system eliminates the need for processing chemicals and film, and allows images to be transmitted directly to a radiologist for reading and interpretation. This will reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging results, and reduce the environmental hazards associated with the use of chemical processing.

"Reduced wait times for diagnostic procedure is great news for the residents of Hudson's Hope," said Acting Mayor, Terry Webster.  "The generosity of our community once again amazes me.  I'd like to say a special word of thanks to the Hudson's Hope Health Care and Housing society for taking on the fundraising challenge."

The Society began fundraising for the new x-ray system in March of this year, and within three months was already well on its way to its committed goal of $50,000 through the generousity of local and regional businesses and individuals.

The existing Hudson’s Hope Health Centre opened in the fall of 1997; two years after an electrical fire destroyed the former Hudson’s Hope Gething Diagnostic and Treatment Centre. Today, the Health Centre offers emergency room, x-ray, laboratory, home care nursing and Pharmacy services. It is also home to a full-time doctor’s office, the local BC Ambulance station, and offices for visiting public health, mental health, dental, physiotherapy and dietary professionals.
