NDP public safety critic Mike Farnworth is calling for a  special prosecutor in the case of the fatal taser incident at Vancouver International Aiport October 14th .  “This incident is being watched across the country and has attracted international attention,” Farnworth said.  “It isn’t adequate to have a review in which the police investigate themselves.

“That’s why I hope the Assistant Deputy Attorney General will consider appointing a special prosecutor to assist with a fully independent, impartial, and transparent investigation.”

Farnworth said the disturbing incident raises many questions about the way Polish traveler Robert Dziekanski died after being tasered by police.

“Only an impartial and external investigation will give the family and public the answers they deserve,” said Farnworth. He pointed out that the Assistant Deputy Attorney General has the power to appoint a special prosecutor under the Crown Council Act.

I just watched the incident on TV and it is a disgusting state of our society when we allow that kind of government institutionalized crime to take place on an innocient citizen.

IMO the use of tazers should be banned in Canada, and the officers involved should be charged with 2nd degree murder.
What disgusts me is how all the deadbeat bureaucrats and slimeball politicians run for cover when something like this happens.
I think we are going to see some big changes because of this. Its terribly wrong when someones death sparks motivation to change policy in this country.. The more i watch the news and see stories about our government failing to protect us the more i feel our freedom in this country has been striped from us. I think it all boils down to the government and justice system not holding the people who harm innocent citizens fully accountable for their actions. I hope that the witness who went public with the footage of this tragedy did so with the intention of the truth being exposed and not for financial gain.
Excuse me Northman, harm innocent people? If this innocent person was not a threat to anyone, he wouldn't have found himself drawing so much attention to himself. Get over it, he was in an International Airport where our security and the security of our nation is at the forfront of our concerns. Haven't you travelled lately? He was behaving in an unstable manner. He was causing a disturbance. He was destroying property. He was putting fear in many of the people who were near him. What do you think the response should have been? And yes, it is very unfortunate and tragic that he died from this situation. But, he caused it. Chester
