So here's the reason why we won...green, lush, simply "mahvelous"

Prince George was awarded the trophy for the best Turf and Groundcover throughout all of Canada in the 2005 National Communities in Bloom Symposium in Saskatoon .

Prince George entered this years competition after winning top marks at last year's competition.

During the presentation, over 200 representatives from municipalities all over Canada and the world recognized the city in its achievement. In making the award, judges were impressed with the City's Environmental Services staff in developing and implementing a systematic and scheduled program of turf maintenance, the automated centralized irrigation program and the integrated pest management program for turf weed reduction.

Mayor Colin Kinsley says  “On behalf of my Council Colleagues I congratulate our hardworking Environmental Services staff and CIB committee members for making this happen.”

During the CIB Assessment Tour, visiting Judges were  impressed with how effective and efficient staff had been in making use of available budget dollars for parks management. Judges commented on the excellent value in the overall quality of the parks system and in particular the turf areas in the community and encouraged ongoing consideration for continued support in all ways.
