Lakeland Mills moved product to higher ground

Flooding  of the Nechako River caused Lakeland mills to shut down ooperations for two days this week.  The first shift was back to work at 11:30 this morning.

Yesterday, a skeleton crew spent the day moving  product to higher ground, and  pushing snow   into piles  high enough to act as a dyke, or  berm.

Meantime, on the north side of the river,  more residents have  been forced from their homes ( see photo at right) .  While the residents on the southside of Pulpmill Road  have left their house,  residents on the north side,  are seeing water seep into their yards as well.

Ministry of the Environment Flow expert Lyle Larson says the jam cannot be "blown"  as there is no place for the water to go because the Fraser River is  frozen over. Larson says that kind of action may only  give the  water a new channel to follow and cause flooding in  other areas.

There is a seam open on the Fraser River on the east side of the river.
