The Federal Government has tabled 49 RCMP First Nations Community Policing service agreements.

MP Dick Harris says in his constituency these communities include Red Bluff, Nazko, and Alexandria, Kluskus and the Williams Lake and Soda creek band.

The federal government contributes 52% towards the costs while the province contributes 48%.

The RCMP makes every effort to hire members of aboriginal descent for these positions.

The bands have plenty of money!
So why don't they have to pay anything themselves?
How much actual policing/man hours are spent on these reserves?
I have scanner, and I have a pretty good idea how much time the RCMP spends on calls to the rez!
Well Andy, you better call on the feds to let them know you are the authority on data collected on police time spent on reserves.

After all, you have a scanner, and they merely have written reports and all sorts of other data.
THEY DON'T PAY BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO. NATIVE SMART -- TAXPAYER DUMB.
The only thing a scanner does is make you aware of the fact that the RCMP spends one hell of a lot of time on the rez!
So what does that tell us?
The inequality must end!
One nation, one country, one people.
All colours and creeds, treat your fellow man as you would be treated. No one group should have special privileges like the indians do. Forget the past, live for the future. I do not blame the red man, it is the law/lawyers and the governments that are to blame, but the catholic church should be made to pony up too, how can we current day taxpayers be at fault for what a bunch of repressed homos did under the auspices of federal government policy? Yes, it was wrong. Yes, the average person on reserve is not treated fairly by their own people (band chief on down) except for the fact that they do not pay taxes if they live on the reserve. These bands don't want any interference who could blame them? Self government, that you do not have to pay for, sign me up!
metalman.
Anyone who thinks that most native bands have lots of money has no idea what he is talking about.
BANDS ARE GIVEN LOTS OF MONEY. WHAT THEY DO WITH IT IS A PUZZLE.
I disagree billposer...the amount of money isn't the issue.
The problem IS with what they do with it.

"The RCMP makes every effort to hire members of aboriginal descent for these positions." ... regardless of their qualifications.
Çan I assume a part of the agreement says that the RCMP aren't allowed to drive over anyone anymore?
"I disagree billposer...the amount of money isn't the issue. The problem IS with what they do with it."

Then don't say that bands have plenty of money. Sure, some money is mis-spent, but that doesn't mean that there is money left over to pay for policing. Most bands have virtually no income other than the funding they receive from INAC because they have no economic base. The money they receive has to cover many things, and it isn't as if they most areas are generously funded. For example, band schools have been shown to be underfunded by 30%. The only bands that have a big general fund are the few that have large amounts of resource or casino income.
Huh?
I got two answers. #40 re: Public accommodation? With the vacancy rate as it is now, I feel no one can find a place to live right now. Feel better? Put that one on yer backburner. And # 41 Needing medical help? How about wandering around our hospital for a few hours one day and note the "ethnic mix". There is my "two cents".
While all items on the list provide food for much thought and discussion, #44 really bothers me.
Why should education for some be different than for others?
Are we not all the same when it comes to education?
And if not,why not?
How can we have different standards to achieve the same end, which I would think is earning a living.
We all do need to earn a living, and the best way to do that is through education.
We had institutions strictly for First Nation at one time.
They were a complete failure as we all know, as well as morally wrong.
They were called residential schools.
Would this not be segregation?
This time when the do gooders and thinkers set about opening up "segregated" schools, or whatever politically correct name will be for these schools, please get the First Nations to sign a piece of paper saying they know what they are doing. This way, my future grand kids won't be on the hook for future compensation. And we can then see if this theory works.
