I would never call him a liar, but I really don't believe his story

I'd be interested in finding out how wide spread this *sleazy* behaviour was/is in Ottawa!
Revenue Canada is s tough outfit. Ordinary people if caught would probably spend time in the penitentiary.

It is strange how things that are so different in our world that that occupied by the former Prime Minister of Canada.
Let's say that I stop you on the street and suggest we head out for a coffee. While sipping, I reach into my pocket, pull out an envelope, and pass it over. When you look inside you see a number of thousand dollar bills. You might ask me why I was giving such an amount to you. Is it real? What do I want you to do? Is it legal? Yes, you write nice articles and such but you would most certainly think that I wanted more than merely to pay for our coffee and leave you - not the waitress - a very large tip for past good deeds and writing. Even worse, I pay for the coffee!
If you were travelling in Mr. Mulroney's shoes (all of them Gucci) you would tuck it in your breast pocket and smile.
$225,000 or $300,000. Details are always so messy...
Now, if this envelope of money were indeed for services to be rendered - legally, that is - you would take it back to your office and tell your bookkeeper to declare a staff holiday. She would enter it in a ledger and start phoning any accounts that had wandered into the 90 day plus column; she would get my address and send me a nice piece of paper called a receipt. In so doing, she would create a paper trail. Later in the year, with a raised eyebrow or two, your accountant would look at that paper trail and adjust your tax forms accordingly. Your company might even declare a dividend.
But not, it seems, in the alternative Mulroney world. No, in that world you take the cash money and stuff it in a safety deposit box, telling no one. You might need a few things, after all. Then, a few years later when word leaks out and after denying you ever knew me or took any money, you file an amended tax return showing this wad of cash as "business income" or such like.
You and I are clearly in the wrong world…

"I'd be interested in finding out how wide spread this *sleazy*behavior was/is in Ottawa"...
Good question diplomat, and I would be willing to bet there is a lot more of it than any of us realize!
I think politicians are exposed to temptation of this sort on an on-going basis, and some take advantage of it and some don't.
But I don't think this is anything new!
Tracing this back to the begining of the Airbus scandle,it's pretty hard to believe Muroney is innocent, and even when the government handed him 2.1 million dollars of our money,I was not suprised.
They cover their own dirt!
One of the unanswered questions through all this,is why was he so broke?
Is Mila a power shopper of what?
Muroney will walk away from this one too.
He is not the only party with dirt on their hands,he is just the one that got caught and no way in the world will they nail him for it.
He knows too much and could name too many names.
All this does is confirm what most of us already suspected and history will not be kind to him!
That's what he deserves.
His testimony was/is a joke, but what is truly amazing is that he actually thinks anyone believes him and he can redeem his place in history!

I really don't believe that he was broke at the time - he was and is on the boards of directors of many of the largest companies.
I also almost died laughing when the taking of money was not *taking of money* but simply *receiving compensation for anticipated traveling expenses.*
If one receives cash moolah for anticipated traveling expenses one can simply put it in a coffee can, the freezer or a safety deposit box - after all, it is neither money nor income! Revenue Canada doesn't want to know about it since it is all perfectly legal.
Pompous words, hair-splitting and obfuscation of course!
What else can he do now? The thing blew up in his face when Schreiber was charged with illegal behaviour.
No wonder the Conservatives are anxious to terminate the Ethics Committee's mandate, doubt the need for an inquiry now and try to hustle Mr. Karlheinz Schreiber (a Canadian citizen) out of the country as soon as possible.
Let's wait and see what Mr. Nicholson is going to recommend as far as the inquiry goes.
Tip of the iceberg, I venture to guess!

Get ready for the whitewash!
The only reason this inquiry was even held was to shut people up!

Mr. Karlheinz Schreiber (a Canadian citizen)is facing criminal charges in another country. He is in CYA [coveryourownazz] mode and I wouldn't believe a word he says...until after he has faced his accusers.

Probably true Jim,but the same applies to Brian(the liar)Mulroney!

Very interesting that the Globe and Mail comment section doesn't allow anyone to comment about Brian. They ask you to write a letter to the editor. Same goes for the guy who allegedly choked his dotter, the guy who was stopped from being deported, poor Willy, Conrad, Karlheinz and other people. We can comment on being locked in a bathroom or Brittany Spears, so jest go figure.

That's what is nice about a venue like Opinion 250.
Everyone gets a say whether anyone else agrees with them or not!
That's called democracy...and they just don't make that anymore!!
