Prince George, B.C. -  The ice jam that has  pushed the Nechako river to spill its banks,  continues to plug the  confluence of the Nechako and Fraser  Rivers.

Ice jam experts have surveyed the area, and will be meeting with city engineers to  discuss options.

Last night,  water levels rose and fell dramatically in a relatively short period of time as the ice jam, which has caused flooding in low-lying areas near the river, shifted. Water levels in the McAloney Road – Ongman Road and Delhaven – Pozer Road – Preston Road areas rose more than two feet suddenly  after 6:00 p.m. Saturday, but plunged suddenly to a level four feet lower than earlier in the afternoon.

Water levels rose suddenly in the River Road area with moving water affecting the Lakeland Mills facility.

Later in the evening, a channel appeared to open  near the  canoe launching park  on the south side of the  river, and another opened on the Pulp Mill Road side of the river.

The local State of Emergency remains in effect.
