Prince George, B.C. - The plans to change the Loghouse Restaurant  and it's property along Tabor Lake into a strata recreactional vehicle campsite, have been dropped.

Neighbours  of the eleven acre property   were  solidly against the proposal which would have the property divided into lots for  year round rental, much like  the  lots available at Lakeside Resort on Cluculz Lake.

The property owner, ( who bought the site at a Ritchie Brothers Auction last July for $875 thousand dollars)  is withdrawing his proposal saying he could not proceed without the support of the neighbours.

Scream it from the mountain, the Anthem of Prince George:

Not in my Backyard!
So what exactly is wrong with having some assurance that when you buy a piece of property that the properties around you will remain the zoning that they were when you bought your property unless you approve otherwise? It kind gives everyone some level of security in ensuring their investment remains sound and does not go to pot.

Then again, maybe you do not have property you have invested in, or any change to your neighbourhood, no matter what, would be an improvement of what you have.

Besides, that property is not in Prince George. In is in the Regional District. And the anthem is the same throughout North America other than in the Hicksvilles of the countries.
Yep, let's see how many other potential entrepreneurs and their ideas will get rejected. The real question is what is it that the neighbors will allow? Chester

Just to let you know that it is a world-wide anthem .....

So quit taking it out on PG ... it is a natural human reaction of protecting oneself and one's environmnet. It is part of our survival mechanisms in action.

"You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" is a much more common way to deal with such things. If the developer can think that through and apply it to his property, he might be successful.
Maybe a more upscale resort on the waterfront with condos http://www.manteo.com

or .... http://www.okhomeseller.com/Real-Estate-Listings/LD25204.asp

or less fancy ...

or with a pool and a few more improvements ..

That lake is a bit of a jewel .. why make a piece of coal out of it?? Is that all you want PG to be known for?
'Then again, maybe you do not have property you have invested in, or any change to your neighbourhood, no matter what, would be an improvement of what you have.'

What kind of a stupid, irrelevant remark is that? - surely not one appropriate to the dean of kutting-edge-kitsch urban planning and oldskool 'architecture' in Prince George.

You guys sit around complaining that nothing happens in this town (or region).

This guy buys a piece of property, tries to rezone and strata-title it, and the neighbours oppose it.

I comment that NIMBY is the principal reason why NOTHING happens in this town.

You insult my neighbourhood.

Get stuffed.
"This guy buys a piece of property, tries to rezone and strata-title it, and the neighbours oppose it."

And this is supposed to be our problem? Anyone who is a developer knows that when one purchases a property with an idea in mind what one wishes to do with it is that they make an offer on it "subject to", in this case a successful rezoning.

If you buy it the way it was bought, it becomes buyer beware. Buying in that fashion is a gamble. So, up to now they lost the gamble, but he has many more opportunities to probably make a better go of it.

So far the purchaser has made a wise decision by cutting losses early and taking another stab at it.

I see the lake as an asset to this community. In fact, one of the houses I designed some 20 years ago is on the lakeshore and has an indoor pool overlooking the lake.

The log house has great potential which a couple of people have seen over the decades. It is too bad that the most recent owner was unable to maintain it up to its original stature in the community.

I for one am for development, as opposed to development at any cost.

BTW, this is not in my backyard. However, it is in my community and I look forward to a much better development and developments in general for the community I live in.

Any problem with not wanting to live in a slum community? Any problem with thinking differently about this than you do? I do live here too, you know.
BTW .... the idea I took objection to came from this sentence you wrote: "Scream it from the mountain, the Anthem of Prince George"

I see that as a criticism of PG as if it was only a problem in PG. It is a condition which can be found the world over. PG is not unique. But you seem to have missed that part.
Some of that Kitsch that I posted above ..

perhaps this is more up your alley?http://www.woodstocknb.ca/logcabinrestaurant.htm

;-)
Owl, small point... property purchased by auction cannot have any "subjects" attached to it... kinda defeats the purpose of auctioning... "Yeah, I'll bid $800K for that 335... subject to me getting a great job for it"...

BTW, I wonder why people use RB to auction off property that they should be able to sell on the open market for what would seem considerably more money... the last handful of properties at auction have gone for hugely discounted amounts relative to their market value.

Oddtimes...!!

:-)

Didn't happen on queensway street though, people there voted against a certain
piece of property but lost!
Auction buyers were told that the Log House Property zoning could not be changed.
