Prince George, B.C. -  A Prince George RCMP officer escaped serious injury last night after the stolen truck he was trying to apprehend took off,  striking the officer in the process. The chase started when police began to follow a Ford F-350 in the area of the Pulp Mill Road.

The police were able to block the vehicle in, but the stolen vehicle was able to make good its escape after ramming  the three police cars that had boxed it in.   The stolen truck was being driven by a man, and there was a female passenger in the truck.

The F-350 then sped off along North Nechako Road colliding with another pick up at the intersection of Foothills and North Nechako. In that instance a woman riding in the pickup received injuries and was taken to hospital.

In keeping with police policy a purist was not undertaken so as to not harm innocent drivers.

The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in the 400 block of Ogilvie St.

Police are seeking the driver and the female passenger.

And the bad guy knows that if he/she drives like an idiot, the police will let them go.
So, what is the answer......
not sure what it is
It is kind of a two edged sword for the police...
damned if they do, damned if they don't.
I would like to see them go for it for it...I'll take my chances...catch them!
RIGHT ON BCracer...LET THE POLICE DO THEIR JOB. IF AN INNOCENT GETS IN THE WAY,SORRY BUT THAT IS THE WAY IT'S GOT TO BE. THE S41T HEADS ARE RUNNING OVER SOCIETY. IT'S GOT TO STOP. CAN'T WIN IF YOU TAKE A ROCK TO A GUN FIGHT.
Well BCRacer and giterdun, hopefully an INNOCENT that you know will get in the way and not one that I know. Im not interested in the police having to risk their own and other innocent peoples lives for a stolen truck. To me a truck or other stolen property is not worth risking as you say an INNOCENT persons life.
I realize in the heat of the moment as the three police cars are being smashed it is hard to do everything but was no one able to go a shot or two off at the truck ? Aim for cab, doesn't matter if it is the driver or passenger they are both guilty at this point in time.
Shoot at the truck? That would bring out the armchair quarterbacks with the local media leading the charge in their fervent hope that facts and common sense be damned, the cops are somehow at fault.
I have in no way thought that innocents should be hurt. Told you it was two sided sword. Relax Giterdun...I can only hope you were kidding.
I also don't think the yo-yo's out there shouldn't get away with this stuff either.
in this case even without a pursuit someone got hurt. Why...the bad guy doesn't care.
If the road is clear then I think maybe pursuits could be acceptable. Yes when the roads get busy, then yes by all means shut it down.

Maybe a helicopter up here for awhile might help. Follow them that way.

No I don't have the answers, I have suggestions..... and yes I am very opinionated, but I never want to see someone get hurt.
Interesting to muse about the fact that the RCMP taser an old fellow for fleeing a double-parking violation while delivering newspapers yet a stolen vehicle ramming a couple of police cars then hitting another car gets away scot -free.

Like Lunarbase I'm in favour of a few rounds into the cab of that truck when they rammed the police cars. What would the 2nd guessing be if someone had been killed in the collision at North nechako and Foothills?
What happened to the days of bumper cars like in the US where officers are trained to ram the vehicle and take them out of commission?

Maybe nobody is willing to tangle vehicles like this anymore. I suppose I can understand. Who wants to risk their lives for a couple of losers anyway. Chester
"unlisted" if you won't protect anything or anyone of yours, why expect us to be the same?
Perhaps you and yours should be put on the RCMP list of people that don't really want the police to chase down anyone that bothers you.
That way the police can concentrate on looking after the folks that want the police to ketch the crooks.

"Aim for cab, doesn't matter if it is the driver or passenger they are both guilty at this point in time"

Hunh? What makes the passenger guilty? She's supposed to be able to get out during a chase? That's crazy.
Has to be very frustrating for the cops!
My first instincts are to go for it.
As long as these dirtbags know that the cops will back off, they will keep doing it!
These people need to caught and we will just have to deal with the risk factor to the public.
Otherwise, the cops might as well just wave to them as they blow by!
Criminals really do have the upper hand!
While shopping at the Pine Center Mall yesterday I saw a bunch of juvenile delinquents engaged in an altercation of shoving and pushing, yelling of foul swear words and throwing cups of coffee at each other.

People gathered around in disbelief and I observed the shock on the faces of children and some adults.

What a sad exhibition of youth totally out of order and not giving a damn about anything!!!

Somehow I get the feeling that a society where far too many scoff at words like discipline, responsibility and personal accountability as if they were *dirty* words is already quite a bit down the slippery slope.

In spite of trying not to let this event affect me I must confess that some of my contentment and joy of the festive season evaporated with the foul actions of those hoodlums.

Merry Christmas.
are you an idiot giterdun? If it's your daughter or son that get hits, your ok with that? Maybe they should throw you under the truck to stop it...no harm done as long as the truck stops!!
Gang violence apparently, sign of the times and the slippery slope...

very slipery slope!
YamaDooPolCat not to sure how you figure I do not want my stuff protected??? Read what the hell others wrote about an innocent getting it I didnt say I wouldnt protect my stuff, come over to my house Ill show you. I dont think the monetary value of my possessions can be compared with risking someones life.
It is against rcmp policy to shoot at a moving vehicle. Bullets do not always hit their intended mark, so where does it go, eh, boys? It travels for quite a distance before inertia or another object slows it down...in some cases an innocent bystander???? That is why police will not shoot at a moving vehicle unless the officer is right on top of the hood and looking into the driver's seat. But that is just hollywood stuff. The pieces of s**t driving the stolen vehicles may not care about others lives and property, but the liability towards the police in such a case is too high.
All police cruisers should carry spike belts in their trunk and they should be able to use their radios to deploy the spike belts when needed in the appropriate locations ie Foothills blvd.

I guess now we rely on finger prints and old fashion detective work to send these people to prision for a very long time.
