Flames  jump from the roof of  a Lehman Street home in Prince George  this evening

Prince George, B.C.  - Four people,  a husband and wife , and their two children (aged 2 and 8 months) escaped a burning home tonight at around 7:45 ,  after a neighbor phoned to inform them that their home, at the corner of Lehman and Cook Crescent in the Hart Highlands in Prince George, was on fire .  Damage to the relatively new home is extensive as firefighters tried to put out the blaze.  The  flames seemed to be concentrated near a chimney where the carport  joins the home.

The neighbor, Brent Foot ,who lives across the street , says he phoned the family to tell them the house was on fire. " It really looked like it was burning pretty good when I phoned" .

The family then fled the home with their children. A family cat apparently also fled the home as did the family dog. Late tonight it was reported that the dog was found covered in soot and wet but none the worse for wear.

Glad to hear they made it out.
What a terrible time for that to happen.
Pretty hard to get at that one. Probably couldn't see flames from the inside. The roof structure must have been weakened with the fire in the attic plus the weight of the snow compounded the hazard. So, climbing onto the roof was probably not considered either. Doesn't take much heat to weaken the metal that holds the rafters together. Many fires start in the chimney or as a result of a breakdown of the chimney. Most often, woodburning units are involved. Thankfully the neighbors were home to alert them and it wasn't in the middle of the night when everyone may have been asleep. Chester
