Prince George, B.C -  A 53 year old Prince George man  has died in a crash  north of Quesnel.

RCMP say the man, Donald McLean,  was driving a pick up truck  that was southbound yesterday afternoon. There was a 5 ton cube van northbound,  the two vehicles side swiped each other, and the pick up went out of control, crossing the  northbound lane, and  rolling over into the north bound ditch.  MacLean died at the scene.

The driver of the cube van  was not injured.

The investgation continues, and at this point,  alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

there seems to be an inordinate amount of vehicle fatalities this yr on hwy 97. Could it be whichever company is responsible for clearing the highways are slacking off?
Maybe if the drivers who intend to drive these highways can hum the mantra that says, " Lowest bidder, lowest bidder". Just repeat that til it sinks in. And then conduct yourself accordingly whilst driving.
The highway west of here was in summer-like conditions from about Bednesti to Burns Lake yesterday - clear pavement, dry as a bone, and no patches of black ice.
