Prince George, B.C. - The efforts to find a replacement for Gerry Offet at Initiatives Prince George have produced some very good candidates.

Offet says the recruitment process has reached the half way mark “I expect we will produce a short list soon, and interviews should be completed by the end of the month.”

Offet had expected the recruitment process to be more difficult as Kamloops is also looking for a person to fill a similar post in their city.  “We have had some very strong applications” says Offet, “several, really high quality applications.”

Offet is leaving the post as head of Initiatives Prince George at the end of March.  He will join his wife in Regina Saskatchewan where she has taken a new post.

Another group of top dollars people leaving the City with a pocket full of change, and a cushy pension. They like to sell the City when they are on the payroll but once finished they hit the dusty trail.

Personally I feel that Initiatives Prince George should be terminated, as it is a huge cost to the City and doesnt do anything that couldnt be done by our present high paid, and underworked City Staff.

Failing closing it down altogether whats the chance of hiring local qualified people for the job. Seems to me if we are such a *star studded* City with a **Class A** University we could find a local to run this mishapen organization at least until we can dump it.
Pal whoever you are, you are very right. I am so sick and tired of seeing people who are paid to say how great this city is, and then as soon as the job is gone, so are they. Offet is a great example. Where is Gord Leighton? How about the last two owners of Cdn Tire? Both of those couples were great standup members of the community, right up until they move to the Island! How about our former city manager? Is he still here in PG? We know Canfor doesn't have its roots here anymore. Hopefully there is someone here with roots who will stay and lead IPG ...that is if it survives, which it shouldn't!

Maybe IPG could look for someone with some real world business experience, instead of the public sector pom pom pushers they have there now.

There isn't one person there that could run a hotdog stand, without the care and feeding of the generous taxpayer.
"Maybe IPG could look for someone with some real world business experience, instead of the public sector pom pom pushers they have there now"

And then everyone would be whining about the ridiculous taxpayer funded salary that was being offered in order to attract such a person. You can't win.

Someone who has the experience of running the marketing and promotion arm of a business with a $100 million plus operating budget would take a salary in the $150,000 + range in my opinion.
