Prince George, B.C. – The  first meeting of the Prince Goerge City Council for 2008 will start with  Mayor Colin Kinsley offering his take on the "state of the community".

When Council gets  down to busines, the Nechako   ice jam and flooding will  be one of the topics discussed .  City staff will present  a couple of project ides.  One would see a review of the mid term and long term risks of ice flows and river levels, identifying solutions and the costs associated with those solutions.  The other recommendation calls for the identification of sources of funding to   bring about those solutions.

The City will also be asked to kick in some cash for two projects.

Council will be asked to approve a contribution of $150 thousand dollars towards the $2 million dollar expansion of Hospice House.  Council will also be asked to approve a contribution of $300 thousand to Events Prince George  for its bid to host the 2009 Curling Pre-Qualifying Trials for the Olympics.

Then there is a   request for the City to sign on to a $400 thousand dollar guarantee in order to land a U.S. airline for daily flights ( see Landing Horizon Air)

Also on the agenda for this evening, an update on the plans to protect the Terry Fox statue,  and a request to approve a pilot project proposal to have all dumpsters removed from the downtown alleys.
