Prince George Mayor Kinsley Wrong In Prince Rupert Port Authority Shipments
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - The Prince Rupert Port Authority is operating at, "not quite" one half capacity according to Prince Rupert Port Authority officials, not "at near capacity" as Mayor Colin Kinsley has suggested in his speech to the Chamber of Commerce earlier this week.
Barry Bartlett, spokesmen for the Authority says "We are hoping to reach full capacity by the end of this year but as of now we are just under 50%. Companies out there, as with any new product , are taking a wait and see attitude before shipping via the new port. To date we feel we are right on target."
Following Mayor Kinsley’s speech to the Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Opinion250 received an e-mail from a Prince Rupert business suggesting that Mayor Kinsley get his facts straight.
In the e-mail, this businessman says shippers are finding that there is a lot of underground pressure by companies and even the long shore men at other ports. As an example, he says ports such as Seattle-Tacoma are not about to give up their business without a fight "And in many cases this may just involve comments like if you move to Prince Rupert to receive your goods it may take longer to get your stuff to your customers here in the States."
