Prince George, B.C.-  The  cost of  battling the ice jam and resulting flooding  from the Nechako River  is inching toward $1.7 million dollars.   To be exact, the  amount spent is $1,697,950.36.

There is good news in that water levels at the Cameron Street Bridge have dropped by about a  foot.

Crews continue to work on installing pipes from two wells so they can begin spilling the 4 degree water into the river.   This  type of activity on the  south side of the Cameron Street Bridge   has already prevented further  ice building up  in that spill area.     It is hoped   the new  "well spill" project will prevent further ice from forming. This is not the same project as the hot water treatment plan which is supposed to melt the ice jam.  That plan has yet to be approved.

Approved by who? The Mayor? The City Manager? The Directors? Managers? Engineers? Just who is going to authorize this plan and be accountable for the consequences? Chester
