Prince George, B.C. - Northern Health   will be adding a new  advanced  CT volumetric scanner to Prince George Regional Hospital.  It will be the first of its kind in British Columbia.

Toshiba will temporarily install a 64 slice CT scanner by the early spring, and then replace it with the advanced scanner this fall. The project is valued at over $2 million, paid through $1.5 million from the BC Government Health Innovation Fund and NH.

A CT scanner uses x-rays to take detailed pictures of internal organs. Physicians use CT technology for head, chest and abdominal scans to diagnose strokes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and organ function.

The advanced CT scanner for PGRH will provide extremely high-quality medical images with lower radiation levels. Both the temporary and advanced scanners are cardiac-equipped, allowing PGRH to provide a new CT angiography service. Clinicians can choose to order advanced cardiac imaging for patients presenting with chest pain. In clinically-appropriate cases, this may reduce the need for patients to travel to southern centres for cardiac imaging.

They have some one to operate it 24/7? Not much of a big deal if it sits unplugged a lot.
That was exactly my first thought Harbinger!
The machine is a welcome addition, but if there is still a staffing shortage to run it,we are not moving ahead much.
seems that has been the issue in the past.
It should be available 24/7 to be effective,I would think.
Who has the answers??
Getting in to get the scan done is one challenge. Finding somebody to analyze the results is another. Still a big gap in my opinion between getting accurate information from the technician to the doctor who sees the patient. That's been my experience anyway. Chester
