Nechako Levels Continue to Drop

Prince George, B.C. - River levels continue to drop marginally in the Nechako River as preparations continue for the arrival of the Eco Technologies Amphibex amphibious excavator and the installation of a pipeline from the Canfor Intercon Pulp Mill.
The amphibex is expected to arrive in Prince George Friday afternoon or evening, and it is hoped that the excavator will begin working on the jam Saturday or Sunday.
City staff and Canfor staff continue to work on plans for the installation of the hot water treatment plan pipeline, which will run 2.7 kilometres from the steam plant at the Intercon mill to the Nechako. After construction is complete, water will run from the steam plant to the river, where it will be cooled to 15 degrees Celsius for introduction into the channel. Introduction of that warm water is part of a plan to melt ice downstream from the introduction point, and help keep the jam from reforming once it is broken up.
