Prince George, B.C. -  It appeared to be a rash of thefts over the weekend...

A number of Canada Post’s grey Mail Carrier Drop Boxes were reported missing from their curbside spots on Saturday and Sunday.

On Devonshire Crescent, a resident saw two men, dressed in black, loading a mailbox into the back of a white pick-up truck.  Then, tracks were found backing up to an empty spot on St. John’s Crescent.  RCMP issued a news alert and, as a result, several more calls from the public came in to the local detachment on Sunday evening.

Constable Jayson Hansen says RCMP located the suspect vehicle and it turned out to be a legitimate Canada Post work crew moving drop boxes as part of administrative route changes.

Constable Hansen says the police do want to thank members of the public for their vigilance in reporting what appeared to be suspicious activity.  However, "No theft for criminal activity has occurred"!

Funny.
What a waste of RCMP resources ! To imaging this is probably being repeated in communities across Canada.
The reliability of mail delivery is dropping so much that the only thing it is good for is the delivery of flyers.
So this is "junk news"......
I see this as a story with a positive ending.

People have been known to drive off with ATM machines, so stealing drop boxes doesn't seem all that unbelievable. Mail theft happens all the time.

It's comforting to know that people do report suspicious goings-on (instead of just turning a blind eye) and that the RCMP follow up on these complaints. It could have been a valid crime. Luckily it wasn't.

Although it may not be 'hard-core' news, I like to hear about everything that goes on in our town. :)

Good comment ChriaAnnB!!!!
Good on the citizens to ask questions. I for one would like to see more of this.
Lowest bidder with anonymity, I guess.
