Carpentry/Joinery students accept their CTC completion certificates
Prince George, B.C. - Education Minister Shirley Bond took to the podium at a packed Vanier Hall this evening to congratulate the 78 graduates of the Career Technical Centre program.
The program is a joint venture between the College of New Caledonia and School Districts 57, 91 and 28. It's funded by the provincial government. Minister Bond says one size doesn't fit all in terms of education and the technical centre acknowledges that fact.
The centre offers students in grade 10 tuition-free college training that they can ladder directly to further post-secondary training. They receive both high school credits toward their grad requirements and college credits towards their first year of technical training at CNC in their program of choice.
The programs include: carpentry/joinery, millwright/machinist, electrical/electronics, welder fitting skills, heavy duty/commercial transport mechanical repair and culinary arts.
Bond says the careers the students have chosen are in the most highly demanded fields both in BC and across the country, and, in terms of culinary arts, the number one in-demand job in the world.
