Teachers will Announce Next Step Tonight

The President of the B.C. Teachers Federation says she will  announce this evening, just what the BCTF will do next.

Jinny Simms wasn't ready to give any hints about  possible action,  instead saying the leadership of the teachers federation will take it's marching orders from the membership.  The will of the membership is being gathered across the province today, and their message will be delivered to the executive before the day is through.

The teachers had planned to start one day rotating job action next week, but the provincial government has introduced legislation which extends the  teacher's contract until June of next year, no raise.  That legislation is expected to be passed by no later than tomorrow.

There have been rumours the teachers will stage a day of protest, perhaps as early as Friday.  Whatever they decide, they have the full backing of the B.C. Federation of Labour.

Doesn't seem to be a free country anymore when the government can legislate and impose settlements on whoever they choose.
Everybody with a collective agreement in this province should be scared of teh Liberal goverment and what they are doing to teachers. Organized labour and union members everywhere should be ready to support the BCTF and tell the government that it IS NOT alright to tear up collective agreements. First the nurses, and now teachers..... who's next Gordie?
who keeps voting this goverment in !! good luck in your battle but my family is now making less because of them ! thank god for cheap fuel or we would realy be screwed
What do the teachers expect? These idiots(Teachers union)went and gave the NDP $1.5 million of their union dues to try and get re-elected.Anyone with an IQ knew that the Liberals were getting into power. This is Gordy's way of saying to the teacher's FO.The liberals have said that no public employee's are getting a raise until 07 and still the teachers want to push them into a corner, good luck folks,I feel bad for the teachers because they are being led down a path of destruction,IMO of course.
ROCK
The teachers doing this "for the students" is as believable as the NHL players doing it for the fans. Labour disruptions are a bizaar, dysfunctional, outdated way to operate. The NHL players bought into their unions BS. They Lost a year of big wages and settled for reality. The teachers will puff their chests, play its the "for the children" card, disrupt every school child and parent, and ultimitly settle for reality. This is not how a first world country should operate. I voted for this government because of their hard line on labour, and I know many did.
