Prince George, B.C. -   The Forest Practises Board has released its audit of two forest licences, now held by Carrier Lumber, in the Robson Valley.

Road and bridge maintenance, silviculture activities and associated operational planning in both areas were found to be in compliance, "in all significant respects", with the Forest Practises Code, the Forest and Range Act, and related related regulations.

Carrier obtained the licences from two cash-strapped companies and met their replanting obligations.

"The board has a general concern about what happens to forestry obligations when companies run into financial difficulties and so we were particularly interested in auditing these two forest licences," says Board Chair Bruce Fraser.

"We are pleased that Carrier is addressing these outstanding obligations and the board also commends Carrier for completing the silviculture plans of the previous licensee, including the planting of 560-thousand seedlings -- before it was officially given the licence by the Province."

Congratulations to Carrier Lumber for being pro-active and dealing with this situation in a responsible fashion. I commend their efforts and wish them continued success in the forest industry. Continuing to survive in the forest industry will be difficult for many companies who don't have the reserves to weather the ups and downs of the wood industry. In the end, the strong will be stronger and end up with more market share. Good on them. Chester
hoorah for Carrier!
