Prince George, B.C. - Warming temperatures have slowed the pile up of frazil ice accumulating at the head of the jam on the Nechako River...
Regional District of Fraser-Fort George spokesperson, Renee McCloskey, says the icejam is now estimated to span just under 28-kilometres, after growing about half-a-kilometre yesterday.
McCloskey says regional district staff were out monitoring the situation on Old Takla Forest Road, where five residents have been warned access to their driveways could be threatened should the river level rise. But, she says, so far, so good.
Officials also checked on homes in the Miworth area and Wilkins Park and did not perceive any immediate risks.
The head of the jam has moved so far west that it's almost out of sight from Miworth and McCloskey says staff hope to get a better idea of what's happening later today when they participate in an aerial tour with city emergency officials and MoE flood hazard technician, Lyle Larsen .
Downstream, city emergency officials are maintaining a 24-hour watch on the river, but water levels continued to drop yesterday from Morning Place to Cottonwood Island Park.
