Prince George, B.C. - In terms of weather, January 2008 was an odd month...
Typically, the start of the month is when the coldest temperatures of the year occur. However, Environment Canada says the first week contained five consecutive day of temperatures above the freezing mark.
The ’hammer’ hit just after mid-month, when very strong winds and rapidly falling temperatures heralded the winter we know so well.
Conditions remained well below normal from January 20th onwards, with the mercury in the thermometre failing to make it above freezing for the remainder of the month.
However, Environment Canada says, with all the ups and downs, temperatures came in a little above normal. Precipitation, on the other hand, was 25-percent less than the 30-year average.
Warmest day of the month: January 3rd with a maximum temperature of 5.4-degrees.
Coldest day of the month: January 28th with an overnight minimum of -36.2-degrees
