Prince George, B.,C. - The Prince George  Fire Department  is hoping  City Council will approve  a budget enhancement request that will add another 7 firefighters to  their roster.  The additional  staff  would mean the emergency response rescue truck would be staffed all the time.    That request ($245,000) has been set over for  discussion at a later date.

The  annual budget for 2008  is $12,603,537.  Of that amount,  $1.158 million  can be recouped through revenues for some of the services, so the City would be responsible for $11,445,099.

When it comes to Emergency Measures, the budget for  the  year ahead  is  just $12,100  while the  costs for  dealing with the Nechako ice jam in  2007  topped $1.4 million.  Those costs  will be covered by the Province.

With an aging fire department, pro-actively hiring replacements is a wise thing to do. The learning curve is much more than 6 months in that job. I have no problem paying more for emergency services. Money well spent in my opinion. Chester
Seems strange that the population of our City has fallen but the frastructure keeps growning.

Cheers
Right on Chester

Yes, and new homes and apartments are springing up all over the city...with a falling population???? Maybe the city should conduct it's own census?
