Sleeping Moose? Relocated

Prince George, B.C. -  At least one of the moose that  had been  chowing down on a Nehring  Avenue  tree,  appears to be in the back of this conservation officer’s truck parked at the corner of Otter and Lacoma.

Calls to the  Ministry of the Environment have not yet  been returned  so we  can’t tell you if the moose, ( its ear, belly and  hooves visible in the box of this truck) is sleeping from having been tranquilized, or  if it was "put down".

It has been  a  year since  a cow moose and her two calves were chased from   Morgan Crescent after  the  cow became aggressive to  the boyfriend of a homeowner.  That same cow was destroyed by conservation officers  about  two weeks later after a woman, walking her dog in the Pinewood subdivision,  was hit by a cow moose who it appears was trying to protect her calves from the woman’s dog.

*****Update******

Conservation Officer Gary VanSpengen  called  at 5:55 to tell us, this young bull  was tranquilized and relocated to a cut block east of Prince George. "RIght now, he's waking up" says  VanSpengen.

The bull was not the one spotted  on Nehring.  In that case,  the cow and  calf were  encouraged to head back up  Ginter's hill.

VanSpengen says  people should be aware that if they spot a moose in their yard or in their neighbourhood they  should just leave them alone.  In the case of the young bull,  he  was being  bothered by  residents, and  became confused, "In most cases, if the animal is left alone,   it will find its own way out of the area.  Leaving the animal alone is also a  good way to avoid agitating the animal  which could result in a nasty encounter."

Meantime, a contractor  searched today for the cougar  that killed a goat in the  WIllow Cale Road area on the weekend  but wasn't able to  keep the track.  VanSpengen says  locals should keep their eyes open "Residents in that area should keep a very close eye on their children and their pets as that cougar is still at large.  Anyone who  spots that animal should call the conservation office immediately."

When I shoot a moose and transport it home,I lay a big blue tarp in the bottom of the truck to lay the carcass on....hmmmm..what's that in the back of that truck in the picture?
:-(
Hope it wasn't killed. Healthy moose are needed to keep the numbers up.
Moose steaks for dinner anyone?
why didn't the photographer go ask the person standing by the truck with the door open what the story was? Their 2 feet are visible in the photo.
On CKPG News right now they said they released it. Hope so :(
I am with La Grande Inquisitive one there. We both hope that somehow (a snowballs' chance?)the moose will live to bite another willow tree. Somewhere out of town.
metalman.
I am also with La Grande Inquisitive on this one. Especially since reading the article where 169 dead moose were counted
during a 250KM stretch of railway between Endako and Smmithers during the spring of 07. Very sad.
