When Prince George City Council considers the request for funding from the Hospice House, they will have some emotional pleas to reconsider.

Ruth Gilbert and husband, Dick Gilbert addressed Council on asking for support for extra funding.  “My other was a client at the Hospice House, in the last moments when we couldn’t care for her any more, they helped.  That was in 2001, and now, I am back there again with my father.”

Fighting back tears, she went on to say, “There aren’t enough words to express the level of care at that facility, they care.”  Dick Gilbert added “It shouldn’t fall to just luck to get a bed there.  We are two taxpayers who would be pleased if the money would be spent on this project.”

Jin Blake, the Chair of the Prince George Airport Authority also stepped forward to offer his support for Hospice House.  His spouse is using the services of Hospice House for pain management “Both I and my spouse cannot say enough about the care provided at Hospice House.  There isn’t a single thing we can think of that would make the services better.”

Blake went onto say the Hospice House is a “diamond in the rough” and Prince George needs the services of this facility, especially with an aging population..

Hospice House is requesting $150 thousand dollars to kick start their expansion plan which will add beds to the Clapperton Street facility. The request will be examined on the 27th along with the other enhancement requests.

I think the Hospice society is doing a great job providing a tough service.

But whats with this rumor that the expansion of the facilities has already been awarded to a contractor prior to any competitive bidding process. Being a non profit society, they should be showing total transperency.
Have not heard that rumour, I hope it is not true. I have heard great things about the Hospice society, and think it should be funded from the NHA. If the NHA were to trim a little around the middle (mid level bureaucracy) they would have enough money to run the hospice house properly, and allow them to concentrate on what they do-why they are there, instead of having to look for operating funds all the time. They provide a vital service to this district, support them!.
metalman.
Lots of great organizations like this one doing great things out there. I'd love to support them all but it's impossible.
Funding is getting leaner and leaner for everyone, demand is going up, volunteers are getting harder to find and infrastructure is getting older.

It's going to get ugly for any non-profit in years to come.
No problem raking in the money from gambling, casinos, lottery', bingo and booze to spend on who knows what. But, a lousy $150,000 of seed money to help a valuable, successfully run Hospice house expand their services in this community is meeting resistance. This is not right. We need to do the right thing and make this work. Cut $150,000 from something else. They are not asking for $2.2 Million. Chester
