Prince George, B.C. - Thieves who cut through a fiber optics cable earlier in the week, cutting internet service to over 13,000 Prince George Shaw Internet customers, were back at it last night.
Residents who live near the old CJCI transmitter say the saw the thieves on their return to the site last night, near Sintich Road.
The thieves were attempting to pull down a transformer which weighed about 200 pounds with a come –along when a resident flashed a light on them and they fled the scene empty handed.
Police were immediately called to the scene.
This person or persons obvioulsy know something about power, because they had shut down the fuses leading to the transformer and had used climbing spikes in order to get up the 9 meter pole in order to hook onto the transformer. They also knew there was copper in that piece of equipment it weighs more then 70 kilograms.
On Tuesday the culprits cut the main fiber optic line running into Prince George used by Shaw. That line, according to residents, is located up the pole about 9 meters. They missed cutting the telus line which would have also caused a major disruption of service to the area although Bell was affected as it uses some of Shaw’s lines.
The thieves caught in the act last night fled the scene and escaped into a nearby gulley. They left behind all of their tools and equipment when they fled the scene and police are seeing if there is any identification on those items.
