Dealing With Job Loss Or Nechako Flood Focus of Session
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - A meeting set for this evening at the Prince George Civic Centre is designed to help those impacted by the downturn in the forestry sector and the ice jam/ flooding in Prince George.
Set up by the United Way, the meeting will cover four main topics:
- Retraining
- Re-employment
- Mental health issues
- Financial issues and options
Five such meetings have already been held throughout the region in communities hit by job cuts in the forestry sector. To date, the best turnout has been in Ft. St. James and the most positive outcome came from the Burns Lake Mayor who has struck a special task force. The task force will look at the social issues linked with layoffs, see what resources are already in place and identify the gaps that need to be filled.
Surprisingly, the worst attendance was for the session held in Mackenzie, “ The weather was very cold that day” says United Way’s Jocelyn Snih “but there were indications people were hoping things would turn around if they just wait .” That attitude says Jocelyn, shows there are some who are in a state of denial.
Although the session is designed for those impacted by job cuts or the flooding, Jocelyn says all are welcome “We’re just happy that we’re helping people.”
The session this evening starts at 7.

Now there's a gem of a statement. If you think things will get better, you are in denial? If you don't attend meetings and make the Untied Way feel good, you are self-sufficent and looking forward to what the future will bring, and the Untied Way doesn't like your attitude?
Reminds me of grief councillors. Some people love to feed off others grief.
