You know  there was a lot of snow when one of the vehicles that’s supposed to help clear the roads, is, well, in the ditch   (photo submitted by Opinion 250 reader)

Prince George, B.C.- Opinion 250 wanted to know how much snow was dumped in your  yard.  You’ve been sending us pictures, and  keep them coming!

At right,  a North Nechako woman puts a ruler to the pile of snow  they  woke up to this morning, keep in mind, they had cleared the same spot last night at 9:00!

A reader called from the Glenview School area of the Hart to tell  us there was  23 inches (58 centimeters) of fresh snow  in  his area.

At left, a reader in the Pineview area woke to see pillows of new snow on top of his equipment.  He says he will  be taking  his grader to work today!

Another reader sent us an e-mail that  at Eena Lake, they had received  31" (78.74 cms)

The shot at right  shows the challenges for a snow blower!

The snowfall does not seem to have any effect at the airport.  Two  Arrivals from  Vancouver are reported a little "tardy" as the  Air Canada Jazz  flight  that was supposed to arrive at  9:12  was  set to  arrive at 9:25.  The West Jet flight from Vancouver that was to arrive at 9:58,  was rescheduled to 10:07

In the photo at left,  a Blackburn area resident’s car is buried under the snow.

An inglewood Street  residents  e-mailed to say while  her husband was able to get out of their driveway,  her minivan just couldn’t cut it.  She says the last  dump of snow we had, "it took 4 days  for the plows to get here."  She says they may consider rallying the neighbours to get the road plowed as "we can’t seem to rely on the CIty."

Snow depths of  45-50 cms have been  noted on Greenwood,   another reader  contacted us to say the snow at his Dawson Road  residence was "hip deep."

UNBC  is open,  but there are some parking issues. However, due to the volume of snow, the University is suggesting that students take public transit to the campus if possible. Currently, the Ring Road is providing access to parking lots A and B (the two main lots) but the lots have not been completely cleared of snow.

At right, the driveway of a North Kelly Road home, the  photographer says  they  tried to  back out, got about half way, then  said enough was enough.

Keep your photos  coming, and let us  know about the snow in your area.

The snow is causing some delays for the Prince George Transit system.

Several routes are  facing major delays,    they include:

Route #90 (Hart)- In operation but unable to travel some of the side streets

  • Route #88 and 89- In operation but staying on main highways and arteries (no frontage or side road service in Hart area)
  • Route #12, 96, 97 (School specials)- Non operational today
  • Route #14 (PG Pulp)- Non operational today

All other main routes are in service and attempting to adhere to schedules as much as possible.

(at right,  nothing but a tractor  can move this Reid Lake Road Snow!)

“The drivers are out there trying to do their best, but things are tough with the conditions that we are facing at this time,” says Aidan Kelly, City Transit Analyst.   “Hopefully people understand and are patient with the challenges the transit system is facing due to this much snow in such a short period of time,” continues Kelly.

Here's another  for you,  anyone feel like  going on the swings?

Never mind how high the snow is being piled, this reader ( below left),  can hardly see the stop signs!

While the reader at right  is plowing his driveway with his bumper!

C'mon guys, hop in your hybrid and get out there to give people a ride! Bring a recovery rope too, in case you come across someone in the ditch.
    metalman.
    Is that a hybrid snowblower?
    Maybe a 4x4 hybrid/electric snowblower??
Sorry, but you can have my Ford 5.8 litre V8 4x4 when you pry it from my cold dead hands!
I have lived to long in the north to buy into the green hype when it comes to winter travel!
And today is a good example of that!
    :-)
    :-)

Jeez, the only vehicle I saw in the ditch this morning was a pick up truck. Just a bit to heavy for my little car to pull but I made sure to give him a friendly little toot with my friendly little car's horn 'cause we're such a friendly little city. ;)
And by the way...today would have been a great day to have the no-mind politicians like Gordon Campbell up here to see why we will be subsidizing the lower mainland by paying a carbon tax!!
    They really DON'T get it!
You 5.8L V-8 is your right to drive. I am totally against the greenies who don't think you should not have that choice.

Understand however that there is an increased cost to driving it. If you are comfortable with those costs, go for it.

For those out there who are venturing out in their big 4x4's keep in mind they take longer to stop due to the extra weight! Play safe!

Look at all that snow! Going to have to get out my "go anywhere" machine.

Glad I got my diesel 4x4 crewcab dug out of the pothole on 5th. ave. just in time to go chargin through the deep snow and slush. Hit the slush just right and you can throw it almost 50 feet. Argh..Argh..Argh, Ain't life fun in the north? LOL
    snowshoes ......

    Cancun?
watch out for the pothole on 5th ave right past central in the big puddle! A van got a flat when it hit the pothole!! We need to look where water accumulates and put in some needed storm drains there.
Yup, today was the first day that I can actually recall NEEDING my truck to get into work. That makes it 1 day out of the last 3,000 or so. To be fair though, I did see loads of cars in and about today as well, so obviously not everyone needed a 4x4 for mobility.

Once the carbon tax kicks in, perhaps the government should mail rebate checks to people for the 4 cents per litre that they paid out in tax, for the gas they used on days like today where they NEEDED their 4x4 for mobility. Say I used 5 litres of fuel on my commute to and from work, that means I'd get a whopping 20 cents coming back my way. On second thought, I suppose the $100 rebate everyone will get should more than cover the carbon tax realted to the gas I use on the days that I NEED my 4x4.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that the only vehicle I saw in the ditch on the way into town was a Hummer, LOL.
I can't wait until we move back!
I'm going to have to ride a Yamadoo to work !
my sister and her husband live on the hart, and she sent me pictures of the snow fall today. i was amazed at the sight of all the snow..and told her i felt sorry for her (jokingly..)because, i am in red deer alberta and we have had hardly any snow. when i hear people say anythng abt winter here, i tell them that we have really nothing to complain about.
