How could the unemployment rate NOT increase in the PG region with the number of layoffs in the forest sector?
Any other numbers would only prove that these statistics are complete bulls**t!
I am actually suprised that's ALL unemployment has increased!
I am not sure why they release these numbers as the numbers only reflect the people that are applying for EI benefits or are currently on EI.

the numbers would be much much higher if it included everyone unemployed!!
So, the population is say 80,000. Those employed in that base are 40,000. The unemployed thus are 40,000. So, a 50% unemployment rate.

Makes a lot of sense.

Our community would then have a fairly low unemployment rate compared to a community such as Kelowna or Victoria that has a much lower workforce participation rate and whose unemployment, using the same simple calculation would be more like 55 to 60%.

BTW, would those who are employed 10 hours per week and are not interested in being further employed since they are students on the younger end, or retired on the other end, be considered to be employed?

;-)
I don't believe it! Campbell and all his puppets say they are looking after the Heartlands! The economy is doing so well! THEY created thousands of job! (all at minimum wage) They are taking credit for everything! They are going to be an open government! I think they are turning our Heartlands into Wastelands. Just wait till it all dumps in their laps and it won't be long. They don't give a s**t about the Heartlands, they have already lined their's and their corporate friends pockets with our money and they will be taking more with the carbon tax.
Back in the 90's, an NDPer passed wind. That is the reason why the is unemployment when the BC LIberals are in power.
