Traffic snakes its way east on Highway 16  as  an RCMP  check stop checks  vehicles for drunk drivers,  seatbelt infractions and anything else that could have kept some vehicles off the road.

Prince George, B.C. - There was no getting out of  Prince George this evening, without having to go through an RCMP  check stop.

There were 8  such  check stops  set up  on all roads leading out of the City.

(at right, officers check vehichles on the ramp from  highway 97 south to Ferry Avenue)

North District Inspector Eric Brewer says 57  officers were on  duty  at the  eight  check stops  as they looked for  everything from seatbelt infractions to  drunk drivers.     Brewer says they wanted to get a snap shot of what a typical Friday night in Prince George is like.

The massive  check stop program  wrapped up a week of  traffic  and enforcement workshops involving officers from all over the  North District of  B.C.

The first set of stats from the checkstop sweep  should be available  Saturday morning.

Will be interesting to see who they nab at 6:00pm in the evening. Hardly time to be impaired if you work until 5:00pm. Or is their time? Chester
And here I was thinking KFC got robbed again.

Hmm...they wanted to see what a typical Friday night looked like so they conducted the check in the evening? Ok...they know what they're doing I guess.
Talk about a lock down! A police state. Meanwhile drug dealers are doing buisness, homes and buisness's are being broke into. Just a big hassle for most motorists.
Time to check what a typical morning rush hour looks like.

Interesting. Stopping traffic to get a measure of infractions, at least the observable ones. With large lineups like that, there should be 100% seat belt compliance, unless the vehicle has none, and 100% compliance with speeding infractions.

There was about 70 officers and vehicles in town for a week of training. They started around 4 pm and went to 3am. It will be interesting to see the stats of what they encountered, etc.
Overall I think it was good use of the freshly trained man power and was a great surprise for the drunk drivers.
they got my wife as she did not have her newly aquired insurance sticker yet on her plate. OOOps honest mistake, they were nice enough to put in on for her and away she went. Nice to see them out there
Gotta agree with Acid on this one.
Drug dealers have been caught driving cars before, at road stops. The cops at the road side don't usually respond to house break ins any way. That is the other division.
Sounds like the traffic division must be over-staffed then.
Someone from the printers probably printed too many tickets for the cops and this was the only way to get rid of them.
bunch of frickin' whiners.
