Prince George, B.C. – Companies looking to land the bid to build the new Cameron Street bridge have an extra week to submit their documents. The initial deadline was to be March 11th.

There have been some minor revisions to the technical specifications and to the drawings.  Potential bidders were also looking for some clarification on technical issues.

Bidders now have until 2 p.m. March 18th to have their bids delivered to Prince George Supply and Services department.

The bridge plan calls for  refurbishing of the existing pilings,  removal of the existing bridge, a new  two lane span, a round about at the  north end of the bridge and  changes to the access at the south end.

So no one has stuck out their neck at a guess what the bids will come in at. We have so many experts on this site and no predictions to show us how smart you really are.

Come on Eagle, Owl, Pal and others your the stars on this site or should we ask Peter Ewert?

Cheers
"refurbishing of the existing pilings"

-No smart engineering firm wants to refurbish existing piles that were built 75+ years ago for a one lane wooden bridge and put their professional seal on it. Spend the money and replace the whole thing then some bidders will take on the contract.
The stamp for the piers should have been provided by the engineers who decided that they could be used for the new purpose, not the construction contractor.

There are several options in the bid package. So one would really have to know which option to price and what they exactly were. Then there is the bridge and then there is the approach with new traffic circle.

I am not up on those civil work costs, anyway. But, I will venture a guess that discounting any options to move existng spans to another site and placing them on a secure foundation, the cost of the new bridge, plus approaches is going to be in the $13 to $14 million range.

But, a guesstimate only ..... waiting for other guesses .... Heidi can kick in here anytime she wants to ...

;-)
Northman you are probably right...I posted last fall on this and stated at that time that these footings don't meet the specs of the bridges that are built today. They must be getting away with it by calling it an upgrade rather than a new structure.
Thanks a bunch Owl. Thats all we can expect is a guesstimate. But I bet any of our guesstimates will be closer then those from the experts at city hall. Afterall they want us to believe that they have all the right answeres.

A while back when the province listed all of the billions that will be spent this year they had a figure of 35 million for the cameron street bridge and someone suggested that was probably the cost of the twining of the Fraser River bridge. Lets hope that suggestion was correct.

Lets not forget the suprise that the provincial government got when the bids came in on the twinning of the Fraser river bridge. The fact is that we could do a lot of guessing but it will depend entirely on how busy the bridge builders are at this time.

Thirty five million, probably not but its possible. A number of builders have stopped construction projects in the province and some have gone into receivership because of increased cost on the projects that they had started.

I have never ever made a bid on anything other then my last automoble purchase and was way off when the saleman countered my bid.I would think that the bids will come in at around $20 million.

See you at the meeting tonight.

Cheers

My second guess would be that they have already recived the bids that are to high and have now asked the bidders to fudge it and break up the contract by seperating it and giving a cost of the approaches the brigde structure the old bridge removal and the piers may just need a little extra work as well.

We have to look good on this as its election year and its a project required by a mere 600 voters in the city.

Sorry about the second post. Its the web sites fault.

Cheers
My guesstimate is between Owl and Bridge, somewhere in the neibourhood of $18 Million.

Twinning the John Hart bridge came in approx $17 Million over budget.
