Prince George, B.C.-  The University of Northern BC  is  preparing to celebrate Green Day, March 20th.

To prepare for the event, a group of students has  conducted an audit of the type of garbage collected  throughout the University over the past week.  The students spent all day yesterday  sorting and weighing the  garbage, and will present the results on Green Day.

UNBC has  a range of environmental programs and  research  that are unique in  the country.   The proportion of students taking environmental programs at UNBC is  about 20 times the national average!

Events lined up for  Green Day include:

  • Bioenergy  opportunities in northern B.C.
  • Panel presentation on  Prince George Air Quality
  • Display of green science projects
  • Environmental trivia challenge
  • More than a dozen displays  on topics  related to green research,  green employes,  green living,  and student activities.

It is more the students are putting this on, then UNBC. UNBC Management has not really endorsed this event but rather are just sitting back and letting everyone else do it.
It is March 16, it is snowing and I am back from an errand where I had to scrape global warming off my car again. Maybe I can use my $100 dollar carbon tax cheque to pay for the removal of my snow tires and have my summer tires installed. Global warming/climate change? Bring it on.
let's hope they are teaching the students to think outside the box regarding the community energy system!
