Major Drug Investigation in Peace-Liard

Fort St. John, B.C. – RCMP in Fort St. John,  Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Fort Nelson detachments have been working together to  clean up  drugs in their communities.

As a result,  102 charges have been  forwarded  in relation to 51 people who have been investigated  for numerous drug offenses in several northern communities.

The investigation encompassed four communities in the Peace Liard region and targeted the trafficking of cocaine, ecstacy and marijuana.

The investigation has been on going since last August and involved undercover officers infiltrating drug trafficking groups on street level to mid level dealers.

The drugs seized ranged from one to four grams of cocaine,   two to 52 tablets of ecstacy and one ounce to half a pound of marijuana.

The charges each person faces are possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and trafficking in a controlled substance.

It will likely be May of this year before all individuals linked to this case have appeared in court.
