Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Regional Performing Arts Centre Society  has set April 1st as the day it will  detail the findings of the  feasibility study with the public.
The public session is set to take place at the Prince George Library, ( Keith Gordon Room)  from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
“We’re hoping for a strong turnout from interested residents of Prince George,” says Society President Sharon Cochran.  “The expectation is that this project will be a key economic component in the development of Prince George’s downtown.”
The committee hired a well-regarded arts facility consultant Webb Management to deliver a detailed, needs assessment covering issues such as current facilities, local users, audiences, markets and economic benefits.  Interviews were conducted in the community last fall and January 2008.     Duncan Webb who conducted the interviews, says, “the residents of Prince George are very passionate about arts and culture – our discussions were very lively!”
The goals of the society are to establish a Prince George Regional Performing Arts Centre and arrange for the maintenance and operation of the Centre.

“the residents of Prince George are very passionate about arts and culture –

And what percentage of the residents would that involve? The last civic election failed to turn up 53% of the voters in the city. They sat at home drank beer and watched TV. Rome burned as the voters diddled.

Cheers
"The goals of the society are to establish a Prince George Regional Performing Arts Centre and arrange for the maintenance and operation of the Centre."

Shouldn't they determine who gets the bill BEFORE they 'establish' the centre?

Ironic that this tripe is being presented to the public on April Fools Day, though.

I stayed at home, drank whiskey and watched an opra on TV
Good April Fool's joke. Let's hope this is a joke and this Performing Art's Centre does not happen, unless they fund it themselves and don't build and maintain it with tax dollars.
How about feasibility study about just how much more I can be taxed without going off the deep end? Money well spent, in my opinion.

The fact is you didnt have the balls to get out and vote

Cheers

That appears what Bridge does best. And it was Oprah (typo)
Why are you folks that have just posted here so afraid of culture? If this was an When they built the ice rinks, soccer fields, baseball diamonds no one blinked an eye.
Culture is not a naughty word!
Nobody's afraid of culture, opinionated. It's just that for a LOT of people, a PAC is at the bottom of the list when it comes to prioritizing where their tax dollars should be spent
BANG ON Raparee
I think he's trying to say we should concentrate on feeding the kids supper before we go around worrying about what's for dessert. I agree with this notion.

I enjoy the performing arts as much as anyone, after the necessities are looked after first.

That is a very troubling statement. You knew right from the get go that this is what the whole project is all about, but at first they denied it. Downtown property owners subsidizing their revitalization with our tax dollars (the home tax) to fininance another public funded building belown the 200-year flood plane in the hope some foot traffic will spill over to the surrounding merchants.

I think to pre-supose that this building will be part of downtown revitalization is short sighted and proves it is political. Personally I think if it is ever built it should not be built downtown, but rather near the current playhouse.

I for sure do not support this project especially because its not so hidden agenda in regards to location.
Let's clean up the downtown before building anything else there.
2 rules:
1) no net tax effect (i.e. max. 20% of budget from local municpal tax support, ROI in 5 years max)
2) do NOT build this in or near downtown (NOT!!!) ... consider UNBC better choice
