Prince George, B.C. - The  Northern Health  Board has endorsed increased liaison work with area communities and stakeholders to make air quality improvements.

The Ministry of Environment is the primary authority to limit emissions and modify permits, with Northern Health providing an advisory role in health improvements.

Dr. Charles Jago, the Chair of the Northern Health Board,  says  the work has already been  underway “Our medical health officers have been working closely with communities to provide health information and options on air quality improvements. We have partnered with groups in the Bulkley Valley on their woodstove exchange program. We are also working with the Mayor’s task force in Prince George. We want to do more work on developing local information and evidence to document the effects of poor air quality on human health”.

Research indicates poor air quality in area communities contributes to about 60 deaths a year across the North.

So it was those damn wood stoves all the time!...I would have never guessed. ;)
HA HA That is just not good enough anymore!
How about a pulp mill or refinery exchange program?
"provide health information and options on air quality improvements"...
But NOTHING ever actually gets done, and the air NEVER improves!
"poor air quality contributes to 60 deaths a year across the North"?
Wow!
Another woodstove exchange in the Bulkley Valley, thats terrific. Can they still burn grass aswell. Lets get Basserman on their but to change that.

Cheers
Big headlines on the CBC website this morning states thats 5 percent of Prince George babies are born drug addicted...
Check it out.
That should be great for the rubby-dub town reputation!
That is a really great endorsment for PG isn't it?
Between that and the bad air, does city council think there just MAY be some issues to deal with here??
Duh.
Options on air quality? What options? The only one that comes to mind immediately is an oxygen bottle strapped to my back like Jack Cousteau. Advisory role? If I wasn't so sarcastic and cynical I think I could qualify for that role. For a fee, of course.
The smoke shacks at the time of this writing are still on the hospital grounds. Maybe the bar owners of this town can get an exemption like the hospital does by offering first aid and have a doctor occasionally drop in fer a drink or two and maybe then those bars can have a smoke shack too.
Northern Health working on the air in those smoke shacks outside? What a bunch of hypocrites. Say I said.
Northern health is a joke! They ignore the idustrial elephants and go after individuals with their evil stoves and smoke shacks and what else? grass burning? Rediculous. As anyone who lived in the bowl this year could tell you, eliminating wood stoves and the like is a drop in the bucket. WHy exactly is it that there is no real developement east of town? Drive through those beautiful country farms and look across the river. Then open the window, breath deep....AND DIE !
I dou that 60 deaths a year covers it. Once our bad cancer rates are included maybe we can double that.
As for drug addicted babies...what is Northern health or the city supposed to do? We have a society which doesnt give a rats patoot about babies. If they (we ) did we wouldnt let a murderer who has 2 other kids in foster home keep her baby in prison (as a form of rehab) and we wouldnt let people get away with making drug addicted babies. It seems we have more people crying about animals doing tricks at the circus than we do advocating for those of us least able to defend themselves.
