Prince George, B.C.- The unemployment rate in Prince George was up last month compared to March of 2007.
The rate for Prince George and the Cariboo was 6.7% in March this year, up from 5.5% a year ago.
There were 13 hundred fewer jobs available in March ’08.
Provincially, the rate was 4.3%
Nationally the rate  increase from 5.8% to 6.%.
Statistics Canada says the upward swing in the jobless rate was  due to more people entering the labour market in search of work.

Just yesterday, RBC, the largest bank in Canada, released it's prediction on the  country's ecnomic growth for this year, saying it will  grow 1.6 per cent in 2008, down from 2.7 per cent in 2007.

It appears that the cities anti business and dicourage the invester strategies are working..............keep up the great work city coucil and administration.
Soon we will have a business free PG.
And don't forget the totally clean air! The slower the economy, the cleaner the air.
No Way! Can't be. Not with the Liberal governement at the reins. The economy is thriving because of thr Campbell crew. Figures must be wrong.
Hey Acrider54, Thank goodness we have the liberal government in there.
I must ask you is there a better alternative?
Everyone blames government for anything and everything.
I remember last time the NDP got in.
The country almost came to a halt.
We were definately smog free then.
How about this onemanthoughts:
Campbell destroyed the medium, small and added value forest sector by giving it al to the big guys........screw the rest!!
What did te MLA's say? What did city council say?...................NOTHING!!

Campbell sold, YES SOLD, BCRail to the worst Rail Road monopoly in North America!
What did MLA's say?............Nothing!!
What did city council say......well, they were the biggest sell BCR suporters in the whole province!!

I thought I would never say his.....YES

Let me see .... we are a forestry based economy ..... the market for the products we produce has gone to hell in a handbasket ..... and we blame anti-business attitude .....

smart bunch in here .....
Don't forget we're also gonna privatize power, after the libs get re-elected. High energy costs will really attract industry. Honest.
We blame to Govt. for everything else, why should the collapse of the US lumber market be any different. Or the high price of energy? Maybe the liberals should have lent all those real estate speculators money at sub prime so they wouldnt have had such an effect on our economy.
All rhetoric aside, 6.7 percent in the middle (beginning?) of a major downturn in the forest industry? is that bad? It seems to me thats still a lot lower than it has been for much of the time i have lived here.
