P.G. Labour Council Speaks Out

“To say that we are disappointed in B.C.’s justice system is a grave understatement," says Wayne Mills, Prince George and District Labour Council president.

Mills, who is calling on the provincial government to stop putting money into divisive newspaper ads and start putting energy into encouraging talks, was speaking out in response to today’s decision by B.C. Supreme Court Justice Brenda Brown—a decision  the Labour Council beleives now pitts the court system against the education system in B.C.

“Bill 12 is the most recent attack on public education by the provincial Liberals” says Mills. “It seems clear from today’s court ruling that this bill has done nothing more than inflame the situation.”

Mills and other members of the PG and District Labour Council are concerned the provincial government has, all along, refused to either sit down and talk through the current crisis in education, or to give the real public school employers the authority and resources to talk and negotiate with BC’s teachers.

“Is this the government’s so-called brighter future for our kids? That’s what we want to know” says Mills.

This provincial Liberal government cares for no one but their own. With the latest court ruling they want to starve the teachers out. Meanwhile Campbell is having a holiday at our expense in Toronto. Shows how much he and his cronies think of our children. He's just a commie coward.
Ye gads!
The strike is illegal.
The strike is all about their paycheques.
The penalty does not seem severe.
They had plenty of warning to save a few bucks for this rainy day.
I do not think they will starve.
They voted to STRIKE.
Get it together-they VOTED to STRIKE.
The government is merely taking a stand-and have the same entitlement to do so as the teachers.
The minute this Government does anything that brings any displeasure they are called COMMIES and work only to fill the coffers of corporations.
BULL CRAP!!!!!!
Sounds like a bunch of squabbling little kids happily doing some name calling.
I hope all government employees get one hell of a big raise, and then you complainers about the government in power being COMMIES can pay some hefty tax increases to cover pay hikes, and then you just might be happy.
Just a clueless lot of brain dead b____ers!!!!
People who think this strike is only about money are close minded and ignorant. Take a second to place yourself in the teachers shoes. They are taking a stand for the future of their profession and future BC children. Pull your head out of the sand and look at the big picture.
Actually, I must say that is the first time I have seen this government called "commie". I don't think it is true, either. Now, fascist pig, that I could live with!
This is all about big labor trying to muscle the government (taxpayers). The public sector unions in this province have been spoiling for a fight since their beloved benefactors the NDP were turfed out. Teachers, students & parents are nothing more than pawns in this whole sham.
Wayne Mill's comments are laughable, like he and the NDP care about my child's future.SHAKE DOWN the goverment that's all this is about.Gordie should tell all these teachers to be at work monday morning or they are fired.
ROCK
Actually your comments are laughable rock. After we fire all the teachers perhaps we could do the same with the doctors when their labor talks bog down. Stop clogging up the website with your uneducated BS.
It appears from the comments so far that there is a shortage of meaningful dialogue between the two parties.

What happened to negotiations? What happened to mutual respect? When our values have eroded to name calling, criticism, anger, and attack, what hope is there for reconciliation?

How can a strike possibly resolve the differences already present? What good can possibly come from a strike or a lock out?

I have yet to see or experience any good to come from this type of action on the part of an employer or a union (employee)

Let's look at it this way. Every job, career or trade is an essential one. The reason is this.

Did you ever wonder, where does all of the money come from? Every business is in business to provide a product or a service that someone else is willing to pay for. This is also where all of the jobs come from. Or should come from. So, in my opinion, every person who works for a living is essential to someone.

Some take more training, some have more skill, some require more risk, others more knowledge or more wisdom, more strength or more courage. Every person has been gifted with a talent, ability or a passion to do something. Each person has the opportunity to find that place where they can do the things they enjoy to do and also get paid for it.

It's very disappointing to see so many unhappy, disgruntled, angry employees that dislike where they work, dislike what they do and dislike their bosses.

I would like to suggest that they just quit and do something else if they are so unhappy.

The reality is this,no person is worth more than anyone else. It all comes down to what someone is willing to pay you for what you do.

When you rely on the government for your pay, you may not be as in touch with your employers as you think.

Personally, I prefer and support my choice for private education and an not so sympathetic to the stand the teachers are taking. (or the recommendations of their union)

Nothing personal. I have many friends who are teachers and I respect them as individuals. I don't have to agree with the BC Teachers Federation or all of the rules or regulations they try to impose on my children. We still have a choice.
krisb, my mistake, but it seems to me that the government appoints Judges, correct me if I am wrong.
Judges are appointed, and that is why OJ Simpson got off! The glove did not fit, but no one thought to check and see if the LEATHER glove and been exposed to salinity, because the leather shrinks immediately. Stupid judge? Maybe.
Rock is absolutely correct, BC Boy is a whiner.
Hey BC boy,if you think that doctors and teachers are in the same league you are out to lunch bud.
