“To say that we are disappointed in B.C.’s justice system is a grave understatement," says Wayne Mills, Prince George and District Labour Council president.
Mills, who is calling on the provincial government to stop putting money into divisive newspaper ads and start putting energy into encouraging talks, was speaking out in response to today’s decision by B.C. Supreme Court Justice Brenda Brown—a decision the Labour Council beleives now pitts the court system against the education system in B.C.
“Bill 12 is the most recent attack on public education by the provincial Liberals” says Mills. “It seems clear from today’s court ruling that this bill has done nothing more than inflame the situation.”
Mills and other members of the PG and District Labour Council are concerned the provincial government has, all along, refused to either sit down and talk through the current crisis in education, or to give the real public school employers the authority and resources to talk and negotiate with BC’s teachers.
“Is this the government’s so-called brighter future for our kids? That’s what we want to know” says Mills.
