Weather....Out of the Ordinary?

Help, I need a weather question answered.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have run in to a lot of people who have asked if I thought spring was extra late this year. I can’t really say, I don’t pay as much attention to the weather as some people, although the pile of snow that is still in my  back yard would suggest to me that  spring  is late.

I want to know how things are in your neck of the woods.

Still snow on the ground?  All clear and ready to plant?

Is this an extra late spring for your area?   Tell us what its like in Vancouver, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Okay, you easterners are welcome to tell your weather story too.

Is this just a Prince George delayed spring, or are things off the mark for Terrace and Fort Nelson?

Let me know, because today, this is one man searching for your opinion.

Good Morning Ben...

Well Spring has yet to show up in Mackenzie either. We still have at least 4 feet on our front lawn.. I can remember a couple of years ago the golf course here was open by the end of April but it certainly wont be this spring. We just made a trip out McBride way thru to Edson and Hinton Alberta. there was hardly any snow around McBride and throug the mountains, none in Jasper, Hinton or Edson.
What do you think of this mornings snowfall here Ben/Elaine....ugh! We had a large black bear on our road last night so i'll go with the bears and call it Spring :)
Come on Ben! Get your head out of the snow! Hasn't a grizzled old newshound like yourself heard of global warming? It's that thing that's caused by the NHA's carbon footprint flying pregnant women all over North America because they can't manage their own operation properly!
Pineview - same snow pack as last year. Just need some sunshine and it will be gone quick. It is the lack of sun rather than the amount of snow that makes this April change up seem slow. Law of averages says the last half of April will have some better weather. It's a good sign that the good waether wasn't wasted on the first part of the month.
Well, I was mowing the lawn and driving my classic a month ago in Kamloops. But today I have 2.5 feet of snow in my back yard on the Hart. Sooner or later spring will arrive.
Unusually late to have so much snow on the ground and still coming from the sky.
I recall when you could play an April Fool's joke if it snowed on April 1st!
only unusual compared to the last 10 years

Somedude is correct. We in the sort of north have become so used to early & mild springs that we have forgotten what it was like 20 or more years ago.Snow in the yard
until May? Not that uncommon in years previous. Skiing powder in the Pine Pass
in late April was an expectation not a
pleasant surprise. Whatever the weather is we may as well enjoy it, no one has a
promise of tomorrow.
Good morning Ben, I saw your inquiry about a late spring in this reigon in your column.. Currently in Fort st James it is nothing out of the oridinary for this time of year. I have got it documented in notes and photos from last year. The only years where it was different in the Fort area was during the El-Nino period. So far the only thing that is keeping the snow here is the cold nights but once it gets to mid afternoon the snow melts really fast. In the nothern part of our forest district (takla-sustut) it is still very much winter for this time of year which is normal. Usually starts to seriously melt in early to mid May in that area which is the major contributer to flooding of the stuart/nechako system depending on how fast it melts. Anyhow that’s my data im putting forward.
Hi Ben,

Better Late than never!

The weatheroffice.com says our normal high for this time of year is 12. In the past month I am not aware that we reached our escalating normal. A normal to me means that 1/2 the time the temperature should be above and 1/2 the time below.

Quite often you post monthly weather stats, be an interesting last month.
I predict that the ice will be off the lakes somewhere around the last week of April to the first week of May, generally like it always is :)
If this global warming keeps up, I am going to freeze to death.

Yup still lots of snow here....sigh
