Minerals North 2008 In Smithers This Week

Smithers, B.C. - The Minerals North Coference will get underway in Smithers tomorrow. The three day conference has attracted 450 delegates from all facets of the mining sector.
Tomorow, thre will be a day long workshop for First Nations, government and mining industry reps. The day long session is entitled "Working Together for a Better Future". Participants will examine the issues, consider the challenges and look at new opportunities.
Premier Gordon Campbell will speak at the wrap-up luncheon on Friday. It will be his first visit to a Minerals North convention.
“Mayors from across the north want to emphasis to the premier the need for policies that contribute to a sustainable mining industry which will continue to be an important part of diversified economy in the north,” says Smithers Mayor Jim Davidson. “The communities hit by the downturn in the forest industry and the devastation by the mountain pine beetle are looking to the minerals industry to help fill the gap.”
