Gas Price Up Faster Than a Wink

Prince George, B.C. - You  know it's Friday when....the price of a liter of  gas  has  been bumped up 4 cents!

Last week at this time,  that same liter was 126.9, then it dropped down to 124.9, and now, just in time for your weekend ,  another four  cents have been added to the price.

According to the  Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives,  the gas gouge meter indicates, the current price is too high:

Your gas prices are 4.6¢ per litre above the normalized cost of $1.24 per litre in Prince George

With today's crude oil price of $116.69 USD per barrel and the US dollar at $1.00 CAD, the price of regular unleaded gasoline in Prince George should be $1.24 per litre at normal profit margins.

At a price of $1.289 per litre, you are paying 4.6¢ per litre in pure excess profit. Across Canada, an extra margin of 4.6¢ per litre generates an additional profit of 4.6 million dollars per day.

That's why it went down a whole two cents so that they could raise it another two cents from 126.9, we're getting a hell of a deal. There goes BC's second industry, everyone will be staying home. So much for tourism.
By the way, I just got back from Vancouver, yes Vancouver where they pay that 7 cent transit tax. Their gas is 124.9 isn't that strange? Seems we are paying the transit tax. According to Carol Taylor, we in the north have to pay our share of carbon tax.
apperantly if we get 50,000 people to sign a petition we can veto any govt bill in bc. Why not do that for the carbon tax.
There was a gas industry analyst on CBC radio the other day that predicted prices will hit $1.50 - $1.60 by May long weekend and then drop a little bit afterwards . . .

I'm curious what prices have to get to in order to change your habits? Personally, my daily driver is no longer a 1/2 ton 4x4. My truck was getting old and rather than trade it in on a new truck, I purchased a small car to use as my primary vehicle. The truck only gets used for fishing, dump runs and stuff like that. Even with insuring the truck all year, it's far cheaper to keep it and have a small car as a daily driver, than to have a new truck as my only vehicle. I'll keep my old truck in service until it is no longer operational and then I'll replace it.
Does anyone recall what the all time high price of regular gas in Prince George was?

Also, is there any gas station in Prince George where under the new "pay before you get the gas rule", you can fill up a large vehicle (over $100.00) using a credit card, without having to make multiple trips to see the gas station attendant.
We operate a station in Quesnel, when you pay at the pump the limit is $135, however, if you pre-pay thro' the cashier there is no limit.
I gassed up yesterday at 124.9. I have one of these cars that tell you how many km's you can go on a tank of gas. In Alberta my register goes over 800 kms. In B.C. I'm lucky to get a register of 643 kms.
I know the pumps are checked regularly by............ maybe Transport Canada. Maybe not in P.G.

The 15 degree adustment thing we see on the pumps is way too high for anywhere above the 49th parallel. The adjustment should be about 7 degrees.

The buyer of the gas pays the inflated warmer pump price when it was pumped in the delivery truck in Kamloops. When the delivery gets here and puts it into the tanks in P.G.,it's way less gas. It's compressed by cold.

Say the gas deliver bought 500 gallons, when he gets here he has 400 gallons. The gas station owner gets charged the price of 500 gallons, but he only has 400 gallons in his tank. And that's what he puts in our gas station tanks in P.G.

I hope this makes sense to all of you because it's true! We are being ripped off so badly because of where we live.

We have to get the 15 degree adjustment changed for our northern climate.
Are we going to give it a shot?
Charles...the Mohawk up the Hart will let you fill up at the full service pumps if you give them your credit card.
With the rise in prices, I am hoping that the service levels will also increase.

In addition to the rare event of washing your windshield for you, some additional services I hope to see are:

- alerting you to the fact that your muffler is gone, when you rumble up to the pump

- mentioning that you have a flat tire, but doing nothing about it

- reminding you to check your own damn oil

- showing you how to swipe your card in the machine yourself, 'cause why should they have to do it ?

- giving away one free plastic bag to each customer, to wrap around their debit card, so they can prepay for their gas
Gas price in abbotsford is 112.4, Kersley is 105.9, So why are we paying 128.9 in PG. Talk about greed!!
GREED???? FREE ENTERPRISE ... and we know people in the Interior are wheelers and dealers...

;-)
extra service???? that's another 2 cents in another lane ...
The station (Sun Valley) in Kersley is not open and hasn't been for quite some time. Pull in there for gas, you won't be getting any.
Just be sure you're not being ripped off by a supplier who's sending your hard-earned, AFTER TAX dollars, overseas to OPEC countries, (who want only our money, and nothing else connected with us), thusly using your money to support countries who hate us and our way of life, to buy more crude oil to sell back to you at ever increasing prices !!!

Find out where your money is going, and who's benefiting from it ! Then buy from a supplier that gets ALL its crude from North America, or at least the one that sends as little as possible of your money offshore.
Although I saw this topic posted on Friday, April 18....I am yet to see the station with 128.9 as a posted price. I did not drive all over town inorder to pay the "new higher price" but of the 10 stations I see on a faily regular basis....the price I paid at 8am Saturday April 19th and the common price is still 124.9 .
I still find it completely amazing that with free enterprise and no price fixing all the gas stations have the same price.
"I have one of these cars that tell you how many km's you can go on a tank of gas. In Alberta my register goes over 800 kms. In B.C. I'm lucky to get a register of 643 kms."

The volume correction from warm (15C) to cold (0C) is from 100% at the warm to 97.9% at the cold.

That means that the retailer looses 2.1 cents on every $1.00 of gasoline she sells if she got delivery at 15C liquid temperature and sells it a 0C liquid temperature. At that lower temperature of the liquid, your tank would hold 2.1% more gasoline. Thus, because you are in a colder cimate, you should be gaining, not loosing.

The 15C is simply a common measuring standard. The actual volume is adjusted based on gasoline temperature to make it fair to the retailer if the gasoline is colder and fair to the customer when it is warmer.

The magnitude of the variance you mention is fr too great to have anything to do with the temperature of the gasoline. It can likely be found in driving habits between the two areas and maybe even more likely with your measuring technique.

If you were to drive from PG to Edmonton, make sure your tank is full with PG gasoline; zero your rate gauge before starting on the tirp so that only that trip is averaged. Then see what the average is for the trip when you reach Edmonton.

Drive the car long enough in Alberta till you have almost an empty tank, fill it up with Alberta gas. Then before leaving Edmonton, zero the gauge once more and drive as much as you possibly can the same route and at more or less the same speed as well as the same payload. Then check you average for the trip when you arrive in PG.

If the variance is still as high as you indicated, then you are getting better quality gasoline in Alberta.
The truly amazing thing is how may people can actually find a way to justify to themselves one of the biggest scams since turning a brick of lead into a brick of gold!
Sure, some of it IS justified, considering the old supply and demand principal, but for the most apart,it's a lot of manipulating the market and spin.
When you have a government who is in it with the oil barons up to their lying asses, this is what you get.
It's BIG dollars for both of them, but we tend to forget just how lucrative it really is for our government, who in turn of course are supposed to using it wisely, not wasting it.
And there ain't a damn thing any of us can do about it!
All you have to do is look at the BILLIONS in profits for the oil companies and you gotta KNOW something stinks.
And there is no good reason that we couldn't be getting SOME kind of a break at the pumps when we actually are supposed to OWN this resource, just to keep the country moving.
We not only pay at the pumps,we pay on the retail end for everything we buy.
Sh*t rolls down hill!
I would hate to be a trucker right now.
And we are also very good a believing what they tell us...our leaders want us to do that, and we do it so well!

I think the oil capitalists are milking us for all the can get away with as long as we are driving vehicles that require the type of fuel that they sell.

We are being held hostage and we are totally at their mercy!

But not for much longer:

Once we (Canadians) have our own solar panels and small wind turbines installed on our own property to generate electricity for pumps that compress air for our vehicles which run on compressed air (Google: Aircar) we can thumb our noses at them!

The Aircar (and other similar makes) are already being sold in some countries and they don't pollute the air, require little maintenance, they have no transmission or clutch to wear out, no expensive battery pack.

"Although I saw this topic posted on Friday, April 18....I am yet to see the station with 128.9 as a posted price."

I have seen a few go up...and I think its nice to have the price posted when the price goes up so I can go fill up my tank before my gas station puts the price up.
A scam??????

Part of the price of gasoline at the pump is a reflection of the national policies with respect to the consumption of a non-renewable resource.

This graph shows that in detail.

Given that Canada picks up less than 50% of the cost and margins of the product, while Europe manages to pick up 150%+, the Europeans must be scam artist kings .....

What I am trying to figure out is why those who are much better scam artists than the USA and Canada have been building the most fuel effcient cars. I am sure that is just coincidence.

Sure glad someone is doing it though. Otherwise how else will we be able to continue to be gluttons?
"What I am trying to figure out is why those who are much better scam artists than the USA and Canada have been building the most fuel effcient cars. I am sure that is just coincidence"

Countdown to "we NEED big trucks and SUV's" in 3, 2, 1 . . .

LOL :)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I just filled up at Petro Canada on 5th and the price was 1.249.

Owl, the difference between Alberta and BC fuel mileage is the terrain.

The way the gas companies are gouging on fuel, I soon expect them to be selling drugs.
If all things were fair and equal, there would be a different formula used to calculate fuel costs here in the northern parts of B.C.
Longer winters,a lack of transit that actually goes anywhere,etc.etc.all dictate a different situation compared to the lower mainland.
Even the Liberals so called "carbon tax" (aka money grab)lacks much consideration or foresight for an area that has at least 7 months of winter and 5 months of bad sledding.
I don't mind paying my share, but I don't think I should have to subsidize other areas of B.C.,especially when they barely even know where we live!
We are held hostage because we let them. Protest, petition...have you forgotten the taxpayer still has control? Sheesh!
