What's In Store In The Coming Weeks

The longer that it takes for the spring thaw to take place the more likely it is that we could see another flood this spring.

This flood however will not come from the Nechako River but from the Fraser if the conditions continue this way.

I like to use the Hummingbirds as a means of telling us when spring has really arrived. The latest they have ever returned to this area since 1973 (when I began tracking them) is April 24th, yesterday. They have been spotted as early as April 7th.

Now if the weather warms up dramatically the snow from the lower levels, which usually has all but melted by this time of year combines with the melt from the higher reaches and then look out.

Any flood that we have this year would come from the Fraser and the now famous River Rd Berm will do little in holding back the water flowing downstream of it.

We may need a slow and steady melt to avert a flood; the problem is that every day that passes it lends itself to a warm spell, with higher temperatures and that would create some very interesting developments.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
