Prince George, B.C. – Tonight, Council for the City of Prince George will set the  tax rate for 2008. Staff  recommend the acceptance of “option C” which would see  residential tax payers paying $6.569 dollars for every 1,000 dollars worth of assessment.

City Staff say that means there would be $72.00 added to the bill for the  “average single family residential dwelling.”

There will be an update on the  river flood risk evaluation and control solutions  options study.  The Province has agreed to put more dollars into that project.

Council will also receive a detailed update on the 40 recommendations put forth by the  Mayor’s Task Force on Air Quality.  The report also includes recommendations for the  Ministry of the Environment.

Also on the  agenda, a presentation by the P.G. Accessibility Advisory Committee  which is calling on Council to write the College of New Caledonia and the Province  expressing concern over the cutting of the JET, TARGET and  Open Doors  Programs for the disabled.

The Heritage Commision will present a request to update the Heritage bylaw.

There are two public hearings set for this evening, both   involve minor changes to residential properties.

Council will consider a request for public art for the new Simon Fraser Bridge.

"Council will consider a request for public art for the new Simon Fraser Bridge."

Who requested this *art*? How about taking any *extra* money and doing some paving in my neighbourhood first - some streets are cratered, patched and potholed to the point of being unsafe and un-befitting a First World country, like ours!

I urge council to resist any efforts (even if supported by the mayor) to splurge on optional luxuries when the basics are crying for attention!!!

Deaf ears Dip, deaf ears.
Hope hizzoner and the city council from Fort St. John ain't drinking buddies. Sure wouldn't like to see our taxes go up 41% hereabouts.
