Prince George, B.C. - About 100 people turned out to the Workers Memorial on Queensway this morning to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives, or have been injured on the job.
Last year, 139 workers in B.C. died on the job. Despite legislation, policy and collective agreements, “Governments and employers may talk the talk, but they don’t walk the walk” said one speaker.
Bruce Clark, of WorkSafe B.C. told the crowd there is only one number that is acceptable when itcomes to talking about worker deaths and injuries, and that is “zero”.
The flags at the monument were lowered to half mast, and the crowd stood silent for a minute.
