Good morning all. Blue skies so far this morning. Spring on the way?
It appears to be very nice outside, indeed...

Just watching the news....

price of crude oil is now down to $113...so has dropped $7.oo a barrel but our costs at the pumps keeps going up.

The yanks have run out of places to squirrel away fuel so this is getting really confusing.

More lies form the fuel companies????
I think we may be sending the good weather your way!..yesterday was so beautiful and looks like another nice one..for today.
Get out and enjoy it!..

Good Day To All

Yes awesome weather, finally.

Great venue TY.

I'd like to begin a discussion about entrepreurship especially self employment as an option for youth.
I have been self employed most of my working life (30+ years) and know some of the the joys and challenges.
My concern is the talent and passion of youth being wasted on dead end jobs for lack of awareness of this as a viable option.
Certainly there are financial challenges to beginning such a venture. Not to mention "Just where/how does one start???"Yet AT WHAT PRICE PASSION? Is it worth selling out a dream just to pay bills? Use it or lose it they say.Even if it requires beginning small, on the side, while being employed,at least begin, don't let your dream die or get buried over time. Life is Too short to not at least try ."Aim at nothing and you'll get there."
There are help options out ther. Not the least of which is Community Futures Development Corp.,M Turner and Associates. Mr Miesner I believe also there is someone on staff with Opinion 250 that was with CFDC that has created a manual of available services for youth self employment.

Well TY for making this forum available .I need to be off to..you guessed it ...work . My own business keeps me hopping these days (I have 2 one creative the other"bread and butter" cash flow).I won't likely see postings til late tonight or Sat. but I trust I've begun something good here.

Have a wonderful day all and thanks again.
OOops...entrepreneurship might be how its spelled ...lol
Me and the wife went to the Homeshow last week. A solar panel device caught my eye so I went over to inspect it. It looked like a 4x8 neon sign case with hoses, tubes or something similar inside. Apparently it is supposed to lay on your roof and preheat the water before it goes into your hot water heater to save energy. So went the theory. It was around $2600 bucks. What irked me was the fact that there was $140 dollars PST and $140 dollars GST on it . Totalling $280 bucks. I asked the guy , I said, "If the government wants us to save energy, why charge us tax like this?" His lame reply was, "Well, you can lobby the government..." Ya right. Here is my tax money. Now where did I hide those stamps? P.T. Barnum was right. A sucker born every minute.
FUEL PRICES:
At Mr G (Petrocan)on the Hart Thursday:
Gas: 129.9
Diesel: 134.9
Gas 129.9
Diesel 134.9
If anyone can figure that one out, could you let me know.
I always thought diesel was cheaper to produce than gasoline.
Me bad.

Anyone else notice that things just don't taste like they use to?
A small thing perhaps, but annoying as hell!
Butter is my pet peave!
Put it in the pan and look at the water in it now,and absolutley no "butter" flavour left in it!
Put it on your popcorn and again,no butter flavour,it just tastes like grease.
I guess what has happened over the years is that in the constant quest for profits,it has been cut several times,to the point where there is very little actual cream left in it, but the producers make a lot more money!
I had some uncut farm made butter a while ago and wow!
Now that was the flavour I remember as a kid.
I just don't think the producers of anything should have the right to screw around with their products without informing the consumer what they are doing to it.
God knows what else they put it in to make it resemble what it once was!
Genetically altered perhaps?
There is no product pride anymore,it's all about profits!
Put it in a fancy package and sell it quick, before the consumer trys it and finds out it's crap!
Fortunately, they haven't screwed around with my scotch...so far!
This town needs a makeover. They do it with autos, babes, houses, why not our town? Might put us on the map all for the good. A silk purse out of a sow's ear, so to speak. Start knocking on doors for sponsors so we can do it on the cheap. But then again, why bother? Oh, well.
RockCarver. Excellent post im not sure how we contact eachother on this thing but givin your "rockcarver" name i may have some things you might be intersted in. Cheers!
If someone is on the road and have traveled from Edmonton or Vancouver to head out to Rupert or further North. Lets make it so that Prince George is the place to stay.

We need something more than a couple of dingy night clubs, for the younger crowd, university kids. Maybe renovate a whole block dedicated to clubs. It certainly be a lot easier for the cops to manage.

Some big draw for the family, be it a destination hotel, complete with RV Sites, water slides, live music, Chucky Cheese type of entertainment area. Something that happy memories are made from.

We can do it, if we wanted too. Take the Hudson Bay slough and turn it into a Boardwalk, type tourist trap.

Something, where we can take our guest to and be proud of it. We have the Art Gallery, the Mueseum. We need something that is on the border of tackiness, but there is enough there for the whole family to be busy for 6 hours.

All good idea's "he speaks" but you will notice that Prince George doesn't even have a decent city run campground or RV psrk anymore?
Anyone who travels a lot will notice that that is unusual in itself.
Most city's do have a park for the RV and camping crowd and that's what the tourists look for.
The private ones are also limited, but the big draw is one right in town where they want to be.
For the motorhome crowd with no car in tow, they want to be within walking distance to shops, resturants, etc.
A 20 dollar cab ride into town just won't cut it!
Until the city builds one, they will continue stop at Walmart and then be on their way!
During an election campaign a while back a councillor, who I won't name but his initials are C.D. suggested a public campground at Cottonwood Park. He didn't mention the need fer scuba gear there though.
The following article made my day:

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Journalists, lawyers and politicians are at the bottom of the professional pack in terms of respect they get from Canadians, and it's only getting worse.

All three lost serious ground in the last 14 years, according to an online survey by Angus Reid.

Only 25 percent Canadians polled had a great deal or fair amount of respect for politicians, down from 37 percent in 1994. Lawyers slipped to 44 percent from 57 percent.

Journalists had been held in high regard by nearly three out of four Canadians -- 73 percent -- but now only 49 percent think well of them, the pollsters said.

Doctors, police officers, teachers, judges and clergy -- in that order -- topped the popularity contest. Only doctors saw their respect rise, to 94 percent from 91 percent.

Thank god the professional chirpers are in the minority..
Dipplowmatt, you are funny! Unfortunately, what you say is all too true. Harb, no problem, just build a false floor on stilts for the Island Cache campsite, no scuba gear necessary!
metalman.
Gasoline at $122.9 in Chemainus last night.
$122.9 in Ottawa on Wednesday morning (around 8am). Interesting how every time I go there the price is lower.
I know this site is 'the Voice of the North' and is based out of P.G., but I'd really be really interested in seeing the voice of the 250 elsewhere, the island, etc.. Maybe some articles devoted to stories in their area would would even spark a little more readership?
Newsflash: "WASHINGTON - President Bush sent lawmakers a $70 billion request Friday to fund U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan into next spring, which would give the next president breathing room to make his or her own war policy."

Why are there 40 million Americans without any healthcare coverage?

And, wouldn't it be better if the next president would have "breathing room to make his or her own PEACE policy?"

Obviously, war is better than peace!

"Obviously war is better than peace!"
Well,it sure seems like it is to George Bush and company!
What is really suprising is that nobody has shot him yet!
Micheal Moore's documentary "Sicko" gives a bit of insight into just how bad the healthcare issue is in the U.S.
Even if you only believe half of it,it sure makes you appreciate the healthcare we have in Canada!
Discussed "Sicko" with some very nice people from the U.S.last summer and they said it was actually pretty accurate!
Of course war is better than peace for the USA.
The entire country is based on the Industrial War Machine.
Everything they do is to promote building more and better weapons to sell to the rest of the world.
This is their true economy. Not agriculture or manufacturing consumer goods.
It is all the old cronies getting together to gather more profits for themselves, damn the consequences, and damn the environment.
If they really wanted a peace economy they would make it, but war is way more profitable.
The CIA is the world's largest arms and dru g dealer.
The CIA uses these funds for black ops which the US government does not have in their public budget.
If you don't believe such a bold unsupported statement, research it, I dare you!
Thats right Loki, war creates wealth and jobs.
andyfreeze- if only people would appreciate the health care system here but sadly don't.Its like cheap gasoline and good paying jobs with tenure.. a thing of the past.
Hi all and happy friday. This is a little off topic from the other postings but I've been noticing stenciled paintings of a little girl holding a gun around town in various locations such as bridges underpasses and the odd fence here and the. I'm just curious if anyone knows what this "art" means. Have a great weekend, let's hope spring has finally sprung eh.

hmmmmmm .... who cares about the tax, I would be concended about payback .... great for an outside pool, even there it would not pay for itself .....

Installation included?

A make over all right. Anyone remember Mrs Oleary's cow?
The BC Liberals “Green Washing” Carbon Tax is nothing more than a Carol Taylor tax grab. Gordon Campbell’s own figures show this will do nothing for Global Climate Change. If Campbell and his lick spittle tot-ties were serious about addressing the environment they would be looking at their failed policies in areas like fish farming, bad logging practices and the devastation of our rivers and streams to name just a few.
"Gas 129.9, Diesel 134.9. If anyone can figure that one out, could you let me know. I always thought diesel was cheaper to produce than gasoline"

I'd hazard a guess that the sheer number of diesel trucks on the road now has meant that they can charge more because the demand is up. Years back when everyone drive 1/2 tons, diesels were a bit of an oddity. Now that 1/2 tons are for wimps and 1 tons rule, you get added benefit of paying more for your gas. Just a guess :)

Regarding Hudson Bay Slough, I always thought that whole area could be developed into a great little park system. Could you not open it up, throw a bridge over Queensway and let enough water through so you could have a small little man made lake in that area that extends down to the river? People could canoe it, you'd probably have fish populate it, I'm sure wildlife and ducks would abound, it could hookup with Fort George Park, you could have walking and biking trails around it, etc.
Hello owners and staff of O 250.

Any chance we could get a little section on here for selling, and WTB ads.

Just things like i have a few motorbikes I want to sell.
And I hope to find an old Jeep CJ, that sort of thing.
Even if you charge a bit for it, thats fine.
I just do not want to buy an actual ad, just like a classified place.

Great job you all do by the way, keep up the good work.

Oh and any people interested in say helping gather garbage up in a few areas, let me know, the litter in some places is so bad its gross.
I will show up to help bag it, and also be there with my truck to haul the bagged garbage away to.

Open to suggestions of a time and place if any are interested.
I will buy everyone that helps a donut and coffee from timmy's to.
Okay I just have to say it.
The ad here on O 250 to call city hall if you see a pothole makes me laugh everytime that SUV falls into the big hole.

Our damn city streets are actually so bad I sometimes have to wonder if my FULLSIZE 4X4 truck is up to the task of driving around PG.

Anyone got a surplus military tank for sale cheap.....it may stand a fighting chance in the holes we have.

Oh and I was told the potholes I reported are already on the list, sounded like a brush off to me.....just my take on it.
If I remember right, turbocat, there used to be a classifieds section on this site. I'd imagine under usage lead to it's demise. Sites like Craigslist and Kijiji seem to be doing quite well offering free services, I'd guess that's why this one didn't last.
